Forums - Nintendo - Demo Play in bound (Kind Code Patent) NSMBWii to be first game with it

Talk about being user-friendly. Nintendo's Wii, already the most accessible system, confirmed an unannounced new feature will be built into future titles. Beginning with New Super Mario Bros. Wii this fall, players will be able to pause during a difficult level, let the game take over to complete the level, and press a button to resume playing.

Legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto says the feature is tentatively called "demo play."

"In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, if a player is experiencing an area of difficulty, this will allow them to clear troubled areas and take over when they're ready" Miyamoto says. "And yes, we're looking into this for future games."

I guess this is mostly for the casuals, I don't mind though, I get stuck alot too at games, but I won't use it if it ruins all the fun, maybe only when I am really stuck and have to resort to a walkthrough, I will use this.

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

wow, that's just weak.

I have always hated cheats. I never used game genie, walkthroughs, etc; because I considered it cheating and totally pointless to actually playing the game. Now this? f-that.

Buy the game to play the game. If you can't beat it too bad you suck, go play outside.

I'm going to avoid this at all costs, but it's a good way to keep those kind of gamers that shut the game off as soon as they get stuck to continue playing.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

So basically it's like watching a guide on youtube but its the actual game o_O;

well..... not for me. but hey, im sure some people out there will use it

Yeh my girlfriend might actually get somewhere in a game that isn't cooking mama :P

Is this a joke? This sounds like a spoof on Nintendo, frankly.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I won't use it, but............. hey, nothing against the people who will use it.
Let's just play.

I really don't imagine they would let people get away with this completely. It seems disingenuous to build a game that you don't have to beat at all.

If it were a "demo" mode, it would perhaps mean that the game shows you what you're supposed to do to progress, but doesn't actually do it.

At least, i hope. Either way, something like that would be pretty cool, so long as the user used it in moderation. I sure as hell could have used something to show me what i was doing wrong with TD Bald Bull. Especially since there is generally a fairly significant gap between showing and doing.

I really don't think Nintendo would completely jump into "games that play themselves" mode.
