Forums - Gaming - How is Microsofts Milo superior than Sony's Eyepet?

@Akvod.

Milo kind of reminds me a bit of that little chick in Poltergheist; stuck in your tv, owning your bases etc.

Eyepet doesn't look like a real person...yet

If people can get attached to a virtual dog pet, imagine what can happen with some lonely people and this Milo virtual boy pet?

Tell me about it!!!!! Scares the crap out of me.

I'm pretty sure my cat's scared of it too.

While I agree that it would be awesome to have that, I think we are indeed very far off from this technology being implemented into games at a reasonable cost. If an RPG would give you an option like this for every NPC you meet, I think it will cost many millions too much to implement for more than a handful of games.

I can imagine Microsoft letting Rare or Lionhead go crazy with it, and let them create an experience which makes people buy an Xbox, but I don't think that it will happen a lot otherwise.

Yea, basically whole dictionaries, in tens of languages and thousands of accents would have to be stored and recognised by the characters and we are miles away from that.

They both suck. One is a boring game inolving virtual pets, and the other is a boring game for pedifiles and michael jackson

Yeah, completely agree. I don't think the technology is at the level where it could be implemented with the ability to respond to more than a couple of pre-programed phrases yet. Plus the cost and technical problems you both mention. Maybe on the XBox 1440?

You pointed out the superiority in the 1st post

Anyway, iPet will probably more populr NOW, but Milo is a look to the future and future AI.

They should implement sound recognition in stealth games. You know if you speak or cough or burp then the enemy hears you and catches on

Here there's another Eyepet video :
