250k first three days? Then what are the weekly sales? 300k?

130k from the first day

120k from the next 2 days  (average of 60k a day)

4 days remaining, surely can get 50k-100k from these remaining days (average of 12k-25k a day)

I reckon it should be easily 300k for the week...that is amazing.

I tell you.  There is plenty of life yet in the PSP and it's far from the failure many people tend to label it.

Rock onto 30m soon.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Did the PSP S&L launch in america yet???? If so why no US boost then??

Using the 10% "of existing owners will upgrade" rule, this is expected - and yet is a good, solid launch.

I expect another 300k of "easy" sales in Japan, then it will revert back to normal sales figures - plus probably 30%-40% (for a while at least).

...

@davygee: keep the figures in context please ;)

The current WW sales figures are PSP 23.4m (31.7%) : DS 50.3 (68.3%).

If the PSP sells another 10% worldwide (thanks to the slim), and the DS doesn't sell another unit - it becomes 25.4m:50.3m. The market share becomes 33.5%.

Not a bad improvement, but it doesn't exactly set the world alight either. The challenge for the PSP is to reach (and hold) 40% WW marketshare.

I just think that the release of the PSP Slim as well as a few big titles are helping the PSP overall.  There is no way back after the phenomenum that is the DS and I would be very surprised if the PSP can manage to claw back some ground "marketshare-wise".  The DS is so far out in front and will only go from strength to strength, but I still see the PSP managing to clock up in excess of 30m units worldwide within the next 6-12 months, which isn't very easy considering it's a handheld and is primarily playing against the DS.

I also still think that the PSP has a good 2-3 years at least of a lifecycle.

Expected... Where did you find this "10% rule"? You are funny because you suggest PSP lite isn't an offer for new users... or "it should sell at least 600k"... Crap. Noone predicted such succesfull start in Japan. Even our PSP supporters (I'm included) went with much lower predictions. Neos for example predicted extra 20% - 30% for week one (it would be 50k?...) and called my figures insanely high (120k-150k)... so we should call this as a insanely succesful start... not solid. C'mon. You constantely try to belittle every success of PSP. What is this? Some crusade for better tomorrow?

@kber81:

I guess what he tried to say was that 10% of the japanese users will update to the slim an lite version so it´s no suprise the numbers are high.

It makes sense, the PSP is a "core handheld" appealing to long time gamers. Those gamers tend to buy the new version of their handheld at the first day.

It's so hard not to comment about Japan and their little things that I'm going to reply with a post about how hard it is not to comment on how Japan loves their little things. =P

Yeah Louie seems to be on the right track. I know a lot people that traded their DS Phats in for the DS Lites when they were released. I'm not one of them though. My hand cramps after extended play on my DS Phat, I probably couldn't play more than 20 or 30 minutes on the light without experiencing discomfort.

IMO Europe and America may maintain some momentum on the new PSP, especially since the slightly "reborn" PS3; in Japan thought, PSP sales will go back to normal or at +20% at most.

@kber  Am I the only one who expected such high numbers for the PSPLite? I just think things will go back to normal after a while, unlike the DSLite which literally took off!

I'm so happy this morning, waking up to some excellent Hot Topic and finding out that the PSP sold 250k in 3 days. Now that is amazing!!!!
