Forums - Website Topics - Who has the best motion controller?

well nintendo has the market recognition...everyone knows what the wiimote is all about...all they gotta do is improve on it.....and they have almost all their games based on it

What the question should be is - Which motion control system will make the biggest impact in the gaming market?

Lets look at release dates:
Wii - June 09
360 - Spring 2010
PS3-Spring/Summer 2010

Now, lets see the control system

Wii - 1:1 motion sensing
PS3 - 1:1 motion sensing with eye toy
360 - 3D Camera based motion sensing, no controller

Now, take a test of each for a multiplat adventure game, like Tomb Raider. How will each controller work?

Wii - Combination of Wii remote for aiming and core motion sensing, nunchuck for movement
360 - Body movements for all actions, unknown input for movement
PS3 - Motion sensing for aiming, movement may require a 2nd controller

Overall conclusion:

Wii will be cornering 1:1 motion sensing nearly a year ahead of the competition, the casual market will adopt the Wii device by the holiday season. Other motion sensing will go unnoticed by this market, continuing with strong Wii sales

360 - Will find alternate plans for their technology, such as browsing xblive, etc, finding a way to get their core market involved with it, not bringing any new interest from casuals.

PS3 - Will find their device delayed to circumvent patent infringement, possibly majorly reconstructed after hearing all the "Sex toy look-alike" comments. End result will prove a viable controller for PS3 fans, but fail to put a dent into the Wii userbase.

See, this is where having a strong first party becomes imperative; All hardware Nintendo throws out into the market is supported by Nintendo software, which is proven to be system selling. That way all third parties have to do is hop on the wagon. I'm not convinced by either Natal or the purple flashlight are really going to be supported by third parties and as it stands what software was shown with either demo?

But yeah your points are spot on, just thought I'd throw my two cents out..also, have you been nagged on this site by peopke expecting MW on Wii?

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Agreed. MS and Sony will have to pave the way for their systems to be demoed properly. Thus Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. These are a "here's some things the system does" type games.

And not so much nagged, but a lot of inquiries about if I have any new inside info - which the answer is no! I've been at a disconnect from a lot of my colleagues that aren't on my dev team. We're hard at work working on our own FPS. Totally revamping the surround audio samples as well as rethinking the music setup. Our alpha demo is running nicely tho! It MIGHT just be done this year.

Let me put it this way.

Imagine you had three friends.
Friend A had a beat up Ford Truck, that worked pretty well most of the time.
Friend B didn't have a car right now, but when he got the money, in couple years, he's gonna buy a nice Honda with all the amenities.
Friend C doesn't have a car either, and he's planning on buying a Ferarri. that can fly. In space.

Of your three friends, which has the best car? Friend A, the one who actually has a car.

Sony and Microsoft are maybe getting Motion Control in the 2-3 year time frame. Maybe. Nintendo has it now, and will have Wii Motion Plus in a week.

This.

Rather well put, but so true.  Nintendo is the only offering that's actually real, that will have actual software for it.   The others?  Does anyone reallky think they'll catch on and establish any kind of an actual install base?

edit:  I'm amazed that people actually think MS will release Natal.  If they do, and that's a very big if, it'll be so stripped of functionality that you won't recognize it from what you saw yesterday.

Hey that's great. Best of luck on that project of yours. I'll be the first to say my confidence in you sources has not been shaken, or stirred. Because honestly, instead of bitching about games that may or may not come out for Wii, I believe in enjoying the games that do. on a side note, other M looks sick.

What does that even mean? This is going to be the most epic failure in history.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Sony would have been my favourite, followed by nintendo then M$ ... The only problem i had with nintendo was releasing a sequel to Mario Galaxy, but treating their other franchises like crap * example: my fav F zero *

Sega For Life - Gaming Died When Sega Died ... Sega <3

The nintendo before - ' wii release ' <3
Sega before ' Software Only ' <3

Anti M$ (Therefore anti 360) - im making it official ... Go play your meaningless FPS Games ...
