Forums - Sales - Which Company is loosing more Money Overall? Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony?

From what I gather, piracy isn't a huge deal except on the DS + PSP. The handhelds have it worse, as I don't believe any hardware modification is necessary, and games are much smaller.

Honestly, game size is always one of the big things to stop piracy. Even, theoretically, PS3s were easy to pirate on, and everyone and their mum had a BD-R burner, I still have a hard time seeing people downloading 50GB ISOs of MGS4, at the present time, especially with many ISPs starting to cap transfer.

Nintendo as far as I remember has never lost money in the video game market, but I could be mistaken. But if they ever did it was only for a quarter. Microsoft has been making money on the Xbox 360 the past year or so. Sony has been losing money ever since the PS3 came out. If they don't cut the price they will probably start recording a profit soon.

Correct.  A few years ago they lost a few million in one quarter due to the exchange rates.  They've never in their 100 years of business taken a quarterly loss on the operating income line of a balance sheet.

Yup, and I remember many people freaking out that "this is the end of Nintendo" and predicting either Microsoft buying Nintendo or Nintendo pulling a Sega. Ignoring the billions and billions that MS/Sony have lost.

It's interesting, Nintendo's basically the reverse of Sony + Microsoft (gaming division). Both of those are basically hardware companies that make their own games occasionally, while Nintendo's basically a software company that builds their own consoles. Nintendo's consoles have always been essentially vehical to allow Nintendo to build the games they want to.

As a fellow 360 CoD player, only about 1 person in every 2 to 3 games I play has a modded controller.

Oh and modding the controller can be done on any console. It just makes the input device send the signal of many inputs (such as a trigger pull) at a time rather than just one.

Even with a modded controller, it doesn't help them. They are usually still very sucky and as long as you play smart against them they have no advantage to using the mod.

umm my friend just got 106 kills in COD4 in with the modded controller :X
I am sure leets can do that without but he says he has it and he cant put it down...
who wouldnt want a pistol that acts like an automatic lol

Your friend obviously knew what he was doing without a modded controller in order to get so many kills while using it. It doesn't make you any better, just makes a few weapons more powerful by making them automatic (G3 for example).

Microsoft doesn't lose money for modded 360's since someone still has to buy the 360, developers do since it makes it so people don't have to buy the games.

But we don't know if those people would have ever bought the games they pirate if that was thier only option.

Piracy is not a problem? LMAO

For the 360, hardly. For the very fact that MS and its devs haven't complained doesn't neccesarily show that they are losing money by pirates, but they have neither complained nor set about to stop piracy total. Hacking a 360 is much more difficult then you may think for people, unlike DS, Wii and PSP modding. Also, XBL bans have stopped a large number of people from modding their consoles, and the funds gained from XBL are nothing to laugh at.

Oh, and the fact that they posted a 500 million(?) profit.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

if you are implying there arent cheaters on psn you are severely mistaken and clearly never played on it.

of course thats irrelevant to money. which sony doesnt have and doesnt make.
