My dream E3? That two of the manufacturers (any two) drop out of the console race and pour their resources into developing for the other. That way we end these ridiculous 'console wars' and the only competition is between the developers themselves to make us better games.

No, it's the other way around. With only one console, there is no competition and there is no motivation to make us better consoles and better games.

What are you talking about?  The NES had plenty of fantastic games.  As did the Game Boy Advance, despite having no real competition.

No motivation for better consoles?  I point you, sir, to Blu-Ray.  Last I checked, everyone was perfectly happy developing for DVD exclusively.

@bobologna: Damn straight!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Around the Network

-Sony is able to have a profit on a 300$ ps3 slim.
-MGS5 announced ps3 exclusive
-MGS4 gets a trophy patch
-Ps2 backwards compatibility through emulation
-Both GT5 and GOW3 arrive in 2009, as well as R&C and U2
PSN cards are now available worldwide
-Bethesda brings pc gamers the Elder Scrolls V
-Maxis brings pc gamers a true SimCity 5

These are my highest realistic expectations for Nintendo:

- Pikmin 3 impresses everyone, releases this year
- Sin and Punishment 2 dated for later this year
- Pilotwings announced for Holiday '09/early 2010
- Wii Fit Plus uses MotionPlus well, justifies purchase
- Rest of Wii Sports Resort games are actually cool, no rehashes like Golf
- Capped off with a Zelda teaser

Maybe Pilotwings will be too much, and all these games need to be using MotionPlus, of course.

And that's just for the Wii side. Someone else can talk about DSi.

# of games above 75 on Metacritic (including downloadable):

360: 241     DS: 144

PS3: 152     PSP: 126

Wii: 85

Nintendo has to compete for success in a dying industry, even if there was no real console competition. As for the GBA, it was good, but it could have been a lot better. The DS is a perfect example of how competition has helped a lot.

There are two things I want from this years E3. Innovation and beauty. With very few exceptions, I won't get it.

Team Ico's new game might possibly satisfy my lust for beauty if it's shown, and hopefully Valve or Nintendo can come up with something truly innovative, though I doubt it.

The only conventional game that I am currently interested in is Half Life 2: Episode 3
