lol. Final Fantasy 13 should do at least 1.7 million in its first week in Japan. It's guaranteed 2.5 million first week world wide. Anything less than that would be a huge and utter disappointment. I'm talking about the PS3 version by itself of course. Combining the 360 version would be even worse.

You went kind of far from what the orignal topic was but I am still willing to make a 1 month long avatar/signature bet with you as far as review average. I don't think that putting the opposing game owns is enough because I'm sure I'll agree that ME2 is great.  what reviews are we basing this on? how many reviews in for each game when we stop tracking?

Actually, it was always my bet that FFXIII wont crack a million the first week in Japan. It will probably get there and beyond during the second week or after. I think FFXIII will be fun, but I've lost my itch for FF games over the years as they've grown to be bland. I believe JRPG's will not have a good run right now in the gen because it will be moving along slowly (even in Japan). FFXIII will break the mold for JRPG sales, while increasing PS3 console sales, seeing that Japan is extremely biased. Well...i'm counting on that bias in Japan to start working in my favor. PS3 will be at six million consoles sold a year past the the launch of FFXIII, prepping the installed base in Japan for GT5 (This has always been my feeling). Sony should call for a price drop and that is another thing that the Japanese are eagerly waiting for.

The few JRPG fans that bought 360's in Japan were screwed because of the bias of a majority and everyone should know it. I must give it to SE, they know how to bend over when nationally their decsions become unpopular.

Mass Effect 2 will have higher scores on average and we can pick the review and boards during their times of review. I'm also predicting that whatever year ME2 comes out, it will get GOTY or RPG of the year. They did it with the first ME and they'll do it again.

STAGE is going to lose these bets so badly. But hey, its his fault for thinking that this iteration of FF will defy what VII-XII have done before it.

1.5-2 mill 1st week in Japan. Just you see.

Hmm you know I think the 2 bet will cancel each other out, FFXIII will sell more than 1 mil in Japan for the first week for sure, every single FF game since seven have deputed with more than 1.5 million first week even on similiar console number, even taking into account the supposed lower popularity of RPG (and this is Japan we're talking about) to debut under a million would be nothing short of a disaster.

ME2 however DOES have a chance of beating FFXIII in meta, I still think FF will beat it but the race is much more closer.

Do not over estimate JRPG, look at what happened with Star Ocean.
People are getting bored of JRPG already!

Even the sales of a New IP WRPG like Two worlds is beating the crap out of Star Ocean IV atm.

Comparing SO to FF? Really?

Star Ocean: Till The End of Time Opening Week Japan: 396k

FF12 opening week Japan: 1.82 million

SO3 LTD NA+JP (No EU Data): 1.29 million

FF12 LTD NA+JP: 4.26 million

FF12 sold more in its opening week in Japan than SO3 in its entire lifetime in Japan and America combined. By quite a comfortable amount.

Also relevant:

FF12 LTD: 5.1 million

FF12 opening week NA+JP: 2.39 million

Mass Effect LTD: 2.06 million

Mass Effect opening week WW: 394k

So, especially seeing as FF13 is multiplat, I think FF13's opening week beating Mass Effect 2's lifetime is pretty reasonable. Just to emphasise, FF12 sold more in its opening week in NA+JP than Mass Effect did in its entire lifetime worldwide. And don't say ME isn't done selling, it sold 17k in its Japan opening, and 1,510 in the West in the week before its Japan release.

The Japanese? Bored with Japanese RPGs??? After Pokemon, Final Fantasy is the best selling RPG there is period. Can't compare to Star Ocean because Till the End of Time barely pulled in 2 mill with almost 50 million PS2 users.

 

Mibuokami -  I am almost certain FFXIII will hit 1 mill first week in Japan, but there is a slight chance that ME2 will get a higher meta rating. It's still a bet that I am more than willing to make given the history of the Final Fantasy franchise. But keep in mind that we have not chosen Metacritic (or any other website yet) for the site that we will refer to.
