Forums - Sales - PS3 at 399$ on 3rd year is ahead of GC(99$) by 8 mln. =)

The confusion lies in that Nintendo made more profit in the PS2 years (2000 - 2006) than Sony's game division did. It is difficult to split apart the GC and GBA/DS sections of Nintendo without properly readin the reports, which I can't be bothered with. But I would guess the PS2 made something in the region of 2-3 times the profit that the GC did.

Still. 2-3 times is nothing compared to the huge disparity in hardware and more importantly, software sales.

The handheld arguement makes a lot of sense.

BAM! There it is!

PS3 at 399$ after 2,5 years is ahead of GC(99$) and xbox(149$) by 8 mln. - http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=GC®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=XB®3=All&weeks=140 =)
PS3 is also ahead of x360 by 3,5 mln., which cost $279 for X360 Arcade and $349 for 20GB Premium on it`s 3rd year by that time.

That`s pretty good result for PS3 at it`s entry price(399$). Now, the only thing Sony need, is to cut price to 299$(mass market price this gen) and be able to make profit from Gaming division. =)

But, despite those sales numbers for the PS3, it makes Sony lose $$$ while the GCN was profitable and made Nintendo $$$ =))))))))

The Fail never ends...

TWRoO, a 249$ Wii bundled with a game. And PS3 launched at 499/599$, that also a factor. =)

Hm. What does your sentence tell you? The GC made Ninty more money than PS2 made Sony. Nintendo packed the Wii with a game at $249, and Sony released a console at 500/600 at the same time.

The only factor I see is that Sony has lousy business sense and it has caused them to bleed profusely........ The console may have great games, but Sony has stockholders that need to see better than this. And THEY don't care about PS3/GC/XBox aligned launches. But they do care about and WILL control the future of Sony's gaming business if things don't change....

Have a link? If you don't I assume you are just picking your nose so I can add you to my ignore user list :).

It's been well documented both on this board and NeoGaf. There are multiple threads on both boards with yearly financial statements laid out side by side for all 3 companies from NES Era, to Sony's entry in the industry, to MS. A few of them have Sega's numbers in there as well, even though they are no longer in the console business, at least for now. I don't remember if PSX or n64 made more, but if find any of those threads, the numbers are there and factual, as the come direct from each companies financial statements. Please do look at the numbers, it's definitely eye opening.

As I stated, it is a false assumption.... Nintendo was more than the GameCube during those years.

I have managed a relatively well guessed breakdown of Sony's consoles and what they have made up to now (nearest half a $billion):

PS1 = $5-5.5 billion
PS2 = $3 billion (and climbing, but only very slowly... it won't reach $3.5)
PSP = $500 million (climbing now, though it was in the red 2 years back)

PS3 = -$7-7.5 billion (and falling... this is the big anomaly)

----------

The Nintendo consoles launched to close together to make an easy guess, but Nintendo only made ~ $4.5 billion during the GameCube years, but those years include the GBAdvance and the DS (and the last remnants of N64 and GB profit too, but that will be minimal)

The question you have to ask yourself crazzy is how in the world is the PS3 not mopping the floor with the 360. It's the succesor to the most succesful console of all time, came out just as RROD was becoming a massive problem, is the only next-gen console to have bluray and has some of the biggest exclusive franchises behind it like MGS4 and GT5. Yet despite all this the gap between the PS3 and the 360 has increased an extra 3 million since launch. That if nothing else should show you how insignificant a price cut will be in the grand scheme of things.

Good call Crazzyman. Gamecube did terribly, and at $99 nonetheless.

PS3 is 4x the price and selling a lot better.

Wait a second, why are you calling the Gamecube $99 and assuming it was $99 for its entire lifespan? It started at $200 and didn't go to $99 until two years into its lifespan.

And I know you might be inclined to say that the $100 price drop so early in its life showed how badly it was doing but the PS3 has dropped, what, $200?

See, I can cherry pick too. =)))))))))

Good Cherrypicking Twest....This should show Crazzy that his comparisons are flawed.

Now if Only Megadude would stop telling us how great Halo 3 is

I'm sure they'll throw a party at Sony when someone informs them of these important facts. With all those red finincial numbers, they can sure use pure, joyfull news like this.
