godfather, repetitive ai and once story was beaten it was dead to me.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
Pretty much anything single player and/or story driven: Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Bioshock, other RPGs, etc.
Single player games are, in general, significantly easier than mastering a multiplayer game like Counter Strike: in fact, people are still mastering Counter Strike to this day. By contrast, I can "master" Bioshock in about a week. As a "hardcore" gamer, I care a great deal about challenge and complexity of gameplay.
I wouldn't mind story driven games, except I still haven't played one I actually felt had a good story. My last attempt was MGS4, and I thought the story was so hilariously bad. Genetic super spies fighting giant mech robots: that's deep stuff!
Everyone else is welcome to their own opinion, of course.

Any Zelda game. To me its a mediocre adventure game. But people seem to love it.
Same with Mario nowadays. Back then (NES/SNES days) it was legendary, but I fully believe if another company made the exact same game as Mario but with a random different character people would say it sucks. I believe its people's loyalty to the best selling series ever that gives it its good reviews.
