Forums - Gaming - Why I Hate DLC and patches?

Firstly, they are useful features do not get me wrong about these facts. They allow extra additions to be made that couldn't before in the past and provide convenience, however, companies are being waay to lazy.

In the past, video game companies were known for well rounded and polished games within a short amount of space. The fact that they couldn't fix the games with patches put pressure on them to make games that were completely finished. I know people are so eager to get their hands on the games and are willing to accept patches but the time spent on these patches and other features are equivalent to the twice the time of production of a full game 10 years ago.

DLC is the more humourous one. I laugh at the way people complain that a game has to few maps like in Gears of War 3,Halo 3,Killzone 2 at the beginning because the developers know they put too few maps; thats where DLC comes in. You already pay $60 nowadays but now were paying extra for new maps and game modes that should already be in the game because the developers want to make an extra buck. If you think about it, most FPS that we buy now are made with less than 10 maps.

People just don't realize that these companies do not care about you guys. Some game developers rush the game in for holidays when its still not finnish and then fix the game problems later with patches and update when they should be finishing the game before they release it.Also, this is to the people that think that they are being rewarded by developers with DLC when in fact your being ripped off spending more than $75.To me, its like a giant middle finger in my face whenever I here the game developers talking about DLC or patches even before the game is released.Besides ripping us off,not all gamers have internet game or necessarily go on the internet to download patches to correct the game.So we consumers are facing alot of problems because of it and thats why i don't like them so much.

Good post, gotta agree,FPS are no more than unfinished last gen games with HD resoultions.

and L4D has 20 maps :)

DLC can add to the game in many cases where they were obviously not pre-conceived to dupe buyers which would be the case of capcom's street fighter iv and namco's soul calibur iv. In games like Valkyria Chronicles, DLC was obviously an after thought made for fan service which is how I think it should be.

Patches can work both ways too. Some are to fix glaring flaws in the game that make you wonder how they passed QC. Others are to solve community complaints which are greatly appreciated. For example, kz2's multiple patches have being in response to the community and are thus greatly appreciated. Without them, we'd be stuck with a flawed game ( flaws which are somewhat unforseeable by QC).

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

It's a love and hate relationship with patches. I hate the fact that one time, I had half an hour to play KZ2 and when I turned on my PS3, just the patch's download and installation took away 25 + minutes cuz it froze the first time I tried to download it. That was an EPIC fail day. But at least it fixed some bugs. But I do truly hate overpriced maps. No way I'd pay $3 per map.

Currently loving my Wii x2, Xbox 360 Pro & Xbox 360 Arcade, and Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Limited "Cloud Black" 160GB PS3

So, OP, I take it you don't play on Xbox LIVE either. I personally love DLCs. Driving more cars, playing new episodic content and additional game modes. If it's an awesome game, I'll pay to keep the party going. In the end - if you don't want to pay, pass. I will say most complaining about DLCs are coming from one side of the room - from the 'have nots' though.

Thats what i'm saying, all the flaws shud already be looked out before they release the game. Some games have frame rate issues. Now a guy who doesn't have an internet connection, wat will he do?

It's a tricky subject. On the one hand, I agree with you that there's no excuse for a developer not giving us a full game when we buy it. However, I have no problem with something like The Lost and Damned or Shivering Isles, as the developers gave us complete experiences to begin with, and the new content was something they couldn't reasonably have been expected to include in the original package.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I am on PSN and i download alot of stuff from there.I just don't like dev not finishing the job and ripping me off

Also earlier games were as it is longer cause they didn't have any kind of expansion method.Nowadays devs create very short game in terms of time like 10hrs games and then have DLC to increase the time.

Games are way too big to be in perfect shape when they get published. In next gen this will be even greater problem.

But they have the space to make it better.Wth is Blu ray for then.Bludy lazy devs
