That is the perfect proof, thanks for bringing up those excellent games. Both of those games appeal immensely to the core gamer and don't expand the market. The PSP is a machine for the core gamer and that's a problem. It is not bringing in a new audience. |
You couldn't had said it any better. Sony focuses on the core, whereas Nintendo is really focusing on the casual audience and trying to expand. But sooner or later that audience Nintendo picks up will become hardcore some day and will turn to the PSP. |
Wow you really need to take a step back. First of all if the PSP is so hardcore why does the average DS owner by more games than the average PSP owner? Check the sales, thats true both in the US and Japan and probably in Europe as well. And then your saying the DS base is going to start buying PSPs. Now poeple switch systems all the time, but I don't see very many DS owners going all the way to the PSP. Maybe they'll get a PSP in addition to the DS, but they'll still probably like and play the DS more and buy more games for it. I've been thinking about getting a PSP, but that's only for Final Fantasy and God of War, nothing else really interests me.
The fact is the DS is a much more hardcore handheld than you want to admit. Just wait until all these RPGs start coming and the DS because a clear must have for hardcore RPG fans. Many hardcore gamers will buy the system for Zelda when it comes out soon in the west. And frankly I don't even like the labling of people who play games like Nintendogs and Brain Age, and the puzzle games on the system, as casual gamers. They like playing games probably as much as you do they just play different games than you do. You know where the casual market really is in handheld gaming, it's on cell phones. The DS is a system for the dedicated handheld gamer. The PSP is for the person who wants a part time gaming machine on a multimedia device.
