I really wonder how many of those LBP copies actually got sold, and how many are collecting dust on store shelves.

Because if you look at the NPD charts, LBP isn't even in the top 20 for PS3 software, and it didn't last long at all on the Japanese or Euro charts either.

According to VGC, from the last Worldwide data we have (9th May 2009):

@ soundwave, over 2m for LBP, 1.6m for R & C aint bad, but they aren't massive hardware movers as you say. But Kingdom Hearts is a big game, it will sell at least 3m on PS3 alone, especially with an enlarged JP install base due to FF XIII and V XIII. KH is an established IP, and will move some consoles, and I am sure there is a cross over between FF fans and KH fans

The last installment sold a 3.1 million units on the PS2. And that was on a immense installbase. If it comes to the PS3 and that's a huge, mega, super if. The PS3 has the smallest installbase and doesn't appeal to the youth who would actually buy the game. You know, colorful 'Disney' games.

Your point? MGS4 outsold MGS3 on an install base thats 5x smaller.

And you point out that Disney likes to cater to children. This is true. But you know what else is true? Disney is one of the main companies that is HEAVILY pushing Blu-ray.

The last installment sold 4.5 million and regardless of the system it's on, KH3 will at least do the same (even being a PS3 exclusive)

@Munkeh:

Like I mentioned above, I would expect him to still be the director of the game regardless of what team is developing it.

I missed that, but he would probably want to have some key men in charge of development

Truth is the days of Final Fantasy and likely the Kingdom Hearts brand being console specific to one platform are long over. Even evident on the handhelds where the DS and PSP both get KH games.

Now that FF13 has broken the link as it were, the floodgates will be opened and Square-Enix's investors won't want to go back to the old status quo.

The only franchise that might be immune to this is Dragon Quest, but Dragon Quest doesn't require the huge budget and is a Japan only franchise more or less, so Mr. Horii gets to do what he wants with the franchise.

It's pretty clear that the majority of potential Kh buyers are on other platforms, mainly the wii. Do you really dispute that? Come on. Didn't MG4 sell that much because there were few games around on the PS3? That factor you seem to forget.

What does it matter that Disney pushes the BLu-Ray? For Disney sake, KH3 has to sell as many copies as possible and spread the Disney brand. The importance of Blu-Ray is smaller than selling massive Disney brands. That's Disney's core business.

Are you seriously doing that! It was released in the summer, when no games are released, because they don't really sell. MGS 4 sold because it is a massive franchise. Many people bought the console just for the game, the sales spike shows what an effect it had

You don't know the precise demographic of Kingdom Hearts, nor do we, but as I have said before, it shares a user base with FF, and the situation a year from now could be very different

Square-Enix I think will almost exclusively a multi-platform company in the future. Especially with the Eidos deal. They will become more Western centric in their publishing practises.

Really too, you're talking about a brand like DISNEY, you probably want to slap that sucker on every platformer imaginable.

I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone gets a Kingdom Hearts game and even Final Fantasy at some point.

Touchy feelings there about MGS4. Relax. I responded to Tedsteriscool that a factor in the increased sales of MG4 was a certain games drought. Which was a factor. How big, who knows? It's a great game but you can't deny that factor in with it's sales.

KH is a Disney franchise. Disney audience = KH franchise. Disney caters to kids. They always have. If KH doesn't fit with Disney demographics then why is it a Disney franchise? We knows the demographics of Kh because it is a Disney franchise.

What exactly will change in a year? The generation and demographics are set in stone. The PS3 can't attract the casuals, that's why it's losing in the first place. The wii is catching more an more steam. And the x-box is still 8 million above the PS3 sales and the difference seems to be growing.

You would also have to factor in the "sales draught"  that is constant on the wii; look at wii fit, wii play, and mario kart.  They sell because the core currently and past tense suffered through a very long sales draught between Zelda, Galaxy, metroid, Animal crossing, Wii Music, and Punch-out.  The formula for Metal Gear Solid cuts both ways with your interpretation.  I do not think anyone here is an authority on where Kingdom Hearts is going (either Wii, Ps3+Wii, or Ps3+Wii_360), so basically this is a thread about speculation.  If this is so, do not discount any possibilities because honestly no one knows.  What I do know is that this generation is "not" half over (by microsofts standards it probably is), and we could still get to play a Kingdom Hearts game within the next couple of years.  The first Kingdom Hearts ran on the final fantasy 10 engine, this was why it came out so quick for the ps2.  The second game came out before the end of the generation, so how does anyone think that this would not happen this gen?  If last gen is anything to think about, I would think if Kingdom Hearts shares the same engine as 13, then it may not even be possible on the wii.  Just speculation like you guys are saying, but it is plausible.
