My super Smah Bros 64 cartridge doesn´t fit in the CD slot. Neither does my Goldeneye or just about anything from before that. On my PC however, I was play the 1989 PoP with the DOSBox just fine.

I´m playing those games because, sadly, they are still the best there is. Thief is still the top stealth game, Deus Ex is unmatched by ANY game out since. HL1 is only outdone by HL2 (which also runs flawlessly on my PC btw), UT99 by UT2004 (also runs fine), ans SC  has no equal. It´skinda sad that some of the games listed are still some of the best created, I blame solely the dumbed down HD consoles on this fact. Anything a console is associated with gets ruined (Deus Ex 2, UT3, etc.).

You sped those $80 bucks for a new card only if you want the better looking graphics, if you want them to just look liek they were before you don´t have to spend them at all.

It's not like PCs have perfect backwards compatability either.  Trying to get C&C Red Alert (a game for Win 95) to run on Win XP was a pain.  I got it working, but it never ran quite the same as it should have.  It was playable for a while, but then it would crash on the fifth or sixth mission every time.

I would like to game on my PC more, but it can just be a huge pain.  I tried to download and play the Portal demo on from Steam, but it would crash at the same point about 10 seconds into the game even though my computer is well above the minimum requirements and meets nearly all the recommended requirements.  I even redownloaded and reinstalled.  Same problem.


Yea i agree it can be a pain in the ass. But there are usually work arounds most the time. But when sony does something like drop B/C.  Thats even worse.  Thats like having to keep your 6 year old PC to play your old games

Just like I would have to boot up my old Windows 95 machine to play C&C Red Alert.

PC gaming is inevitable to me becaue I have done PC gaming since 1995, always build my own comps, keep myself up to date on hardware and stuff, and you just need a PC if you really want to cover the most of gaming out there and get the best versions (although the difference in the HD gen is almost negilable).

But gaming on PC sure is complicated and frustrating! I've smashed several of my hardware, like keyboards and mice out of pure anger when installs don't work, games crash and when I just can't seem to find and solve one among the endless flow of problems.

I've never had trouble with PC gaming. Or PCs in general. Never seem to have any of the trouble everyone else has. I agree with Twesterm's points. Console gaming is just more my style now.

I usually don't have any trouble at all, but recently there was a demo I downloaded that just WOULD. NOT. PLAY. That's the peril of PC, I suppose. Actually, I recall that Portal had minor issues, too. Considering I play few PC games, I guess that's not such a great success rate after all. Oddly enough, "back in the day" when everything was supposed to be horrible, I never had problems ... or maybe I just don't remember because it was so unremarkable?

Actually HD consoles are the biggest waste of money I´ve seen. They half-ass PC features and as a result get half-ass games which aren´t as good as games that came out on the PC 5 years ago or more. Talk about pathetic.

LMAO, that is one of the funniest things ever!!!! completly the opposite for me hence why I left PC gaming where it belongs (in the past) although I do "download" a few games every so often seeing as noone pays for pc games these days.....

Really now? You have to actually PAY to play online. You get excited when something like LBP comes out, which equates to PC games about 10+ years ago when it comes to making your own content, games require literally 2 buttons nowadays (look at Gears), it's just pathetic and a sad excuse for games. I've been waiting for 5 years for something with better MP than UT2004 to come out and almost as much for a SP FPS to beat HL2. THAT is what makes it pathetic, also don't even get me started on the RPGs.
