Forums - Gaming - When (if ever) do you see Insomniac going multi-plat?

Never.

It would be a retarded business decision if they ever did.

When SONY leaves the console biz.... I don't expect that to happen anytime soon.

Whether it's a good business more or not aside. I think Insomniac and it's owners created the company to give themselves freedom to create their video games and the chance to make hte best games they can. Going multiplat will only hinder their ability to do what they want.

Last thing Insomniac would want to to do is make Sony upset. This is like as if someone thinks with the new freedom that Bungie has from MS that you will see anything from them go anywhere else but 360.

It's like this, they'd probably mention to Sony a plan of going full 3rd Party (multiplat). Sony would see the relationship, success and importance of them, and guess what, out would come the $$$$$$!

Insomniac's not going anywhere, count on that.

I agree. All of Insomniacs games ATLEAST sell a million copies.

2nd party devs like Insomniac and Bungie don't cut their ties because Sony/MS are the ones who promote their games and the devs remember how small they were before they had good relationships with Sony/MS.

Anyone remember Disrupter by Insomniac? Anyone remember any of Bungies games before Halo? Neither had big titles BEFORE their strong ties with Sony/MS, so there is loyalty, and also a fear that their games wouldnt sell as much if they went multiplat.

If anything, I could see EPIC Games going multiplat because they were already big time before making an exclusive game for MS.

my question is does Sony own the IPs or own the publishing rights to the IP?

Sony owns the IPs of every single Insomniac series currently being developed.

I remember reading something along the lines that they will never make a game for the xbox but they will make games for Nintendo when they go HD.

Unless SONY really pisses off Ted or Insomniac ends up in financial trouble i doubt they will go multiplatform.

Though i wonder what games their second studio will put out or if we will see Insomniac release another PSN game this year (remember they released 2 games last year with 1 studio, now they have 2 its possible they will announce a new title at E3)

The studio which opened recently was said to be quite small and not the 1 PS3 game a year kind of team. My guess is that Sony funded them to put together a small team which just makes PSN and PSP games. The PSN R&C game has obviously made quite a large amount of profit for Sony since it is still in the top 10 downloads after all this time and the EU disc release has sold 0.26 million.
