Forums - Website Topics - Can we ban confessed pirates and modders?

I know this is contentious, but the whole premise of this site and the industry it supports is innovation, competition, investment and depth within the gaming industry.  Whatever the disagreement over to what extent, there is no denying the piracy and console modding costs this industry a tonne of money, and inevitibly results in sackings, game cancellations and a lack of innovation.

At the very least, people admitting to piracy on VGChartz are being granted a forum to advocate their illegal and disruptive actions.

Edit:  Note please, that I only have a problem with modding for the purposes of piracy.

I agree that people should support the industry, but I think banning people for piracy goes a bit too far. What people do in the privacy of their own home shouldn't be basis for banning on a site like this ... I mean, they may not be helping the industry, but they aren't really doing any harm to the site either. I just don't think it would be fair.

I actually agree with what Starcraft is saying. Pirating games is WRONG and it's fucking up the industry.

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Modding doesn't always mean piracy though. I, for example, modded my PS1, not that I could play games for free, but so I could play all the JRPG's that never made it to Europe. Which is pretty much most of them with the exception of FF's.

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

I understand what your saying but come on

this is a democracy

Only when we also ban ninja's

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I can't stand piracy but this is a dumb idea. This does nothing to stop piracy and in the end once you've banned a couple of people who probably didn't know the rules anywya, people will just stop confessing.

That would be ridiculous. The site exists to track sales, not to judge people on whether or not they contribute to them.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Ban modders?

GTFO.

But people stopping confessing would be a GOOD thing. Ultimately, the website is being used as a forum to promote piracy. Anyone acknowledging doing it and gaining advantage by it advocates it.

If people stopped admitting it because of a ban rule, the ban rule would have been successful.
