Forums - Nintendo - Doesn't this sentence regarding Metroid Prime Trilogy concern anyone?

No, not really. Part of the reason the Metroid games still look good is because the art style is so good and the games run smooth as butter, this is due to the focus of the developers and not necessarily something that is improved with better hardware.

......Yeah thats exactly what everyone here is saying. Its developers that make the say in how the end game turns out.

Yes but you missed my point. The fact that they still look good is more a reflection of the really good choices made by Retro rather than a reflection of Wii's limitations or the badness of other developers.  Why should we be concerned if most developers can't match the artistic skills of Retro?  There are plenty of games on the HD systems that don't look as good as Metroid Prime 3 from an aesthetic standpoint despite being technically far superior.  Why don't we chastise those developers for not hiring as good artists as Retro.  Metroid's visuals are still good because they focus on a timeless element, art.

My sentiments exactly.  I have gone back and played the GC Metroid games, and the graphics haven't aged as much as other games.  It is a testament to Retro Studios skills to make a game so beyond it's time.

Well maybe Wii isn't as far ahead as the Gamecube as we think.

Capcom would have helped us test this theory if they had made a Wii sequel to RE4. If their Wii built from scratch game was not much more imrpoved graphically over RE4 then we'd know there's hardly much difference between Wii and Cube. but alas they seem to be more concerned with taking the easy/cheap/cash in option and releasing only ports of old Resident Evils and on rail shooters.

Not exactly. I've already played the Japanese NPC! version of Prime 1, and the graphics hold up extremely well for a 7-year-old game.

it's because of the art design and atmosphere of the entire world. Not the graphics as a whole really. I think metroid prime 2 looks better then killzone 2, what ya gonna do about it.

Eh, a little. But supposedly they added bloom lighting to the original 2, and lighting/effects tend to be the more significant graphical advances when coming to the Wii.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

In a EGM review of MP1 they said it was like playing a game made 6 years in the future because it was just that good.

This was in 2002.

I still start these games up and while the poly count is no match for a HD system game it has so many subtle touches from little details to art style that most games on any system HD or not lack.

Great art direction can go a long way, and the Metroid Prime trilogy has some fantastic art direction.

But seeing as Nintendo is always pushing its own hardware to the limit (seeing as they know the tech inside and out), this isn't all that surprising.

On that note, I can't wait for August 24. It'll be a grand birthday.
