Forums - Sony - Infamous 7/10 from Eurogamer (UK)

Not unexpected coming from them. Eurogamer (UK) suffers from a lot of inconsistancy.

From what I have seen so far, I think this game will be a lot better than Crackdown, which they rated 9/10 (ahem.... not a 'harsh' review at all....).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

LOL at people saying "ooo harsh", you havn't even played the game yet how would you KNOW they're being harsh, and don't tell me "Oh but I have played the demo!!" sod the poxy demo you havn't played the full game so stop with the stupid insults towards Eurogamer.

Yay, does this mean that - seeing how I've played the full game myself - I can say that 7/10 is rather harsh for this title?

Personally I seem to fall in line with IGN's reviews. They seem to grade a bit higher than most, but I do as well cause most of things games get docked for I simply dont hold of high importance.

Eurogamer gets a bad rep because of their scale. People just cant fathom a 5 being the median score. We are so used to 7 meaning average, so to see a 7 makes people feel its unjust if the game is above average as many believe Infamous is. I dont even really take the numbers so serious, I just look at the pros and cons and weigh them. If the cons dont matter to me much, and the pros are plenty, Ill get it. If the cons are dealbreakers, I rent or simply pass the game by. Read the reviews people.

As for Wolverine, its not really a licensed game since the game was being made before the movie. The movie piggygbacked off of the game, its usually the other way around.

I am a gamer. Not a fanboy, not a troll, a gamer. So when you dont like what I have to say, remember this fact.

Yes of course you can, its all opinion though, yours and eurogamer's, I'm not saying either are right or wrong.

You know I have to throw it out there....

Isn't Eurogamer is the same people that review Darkfall and gave it a 2/10 but come to find out that the guy never played the actually game. He basically played with character creation for few hours and then go into the game to ask how to do a fireball and logged out. When Darkfall called them out on it, Eurogamer kept the score even though they are log records that he jerk and didn't play it...

Yea, they are top notch ethical journalist, NEXT....

I'm just saying...

And enough with the "7 is not that bad of a score, stop complaining" crap. We get it, 7 is not the worst place Infamous could be on EU's grading scale, but it is not the most correct rating either.

I don't know about you but I don't buy games that I think are anything below an 8! Thats according to my personal scale which is frequently formed from personal experience as well as reviews. FOr others it might be completely through persona experience or entirely from reviews. No one has the time to personally try out EVERY game that might be a little interesting only to find out it is mediocre. This is why some my invest full trust in review scores.

If I had listened to reviewers about Heavenly Sword I would have never experienced such a great game and it pisses me off to think how many DIDN'T play it due to terrible scores. This agitates me the most about broken review scores. We here on the charts may be smart enough not to listen to EVERY review that comes out but the casual internet user isnt.

Some gamer is going to see this blasphemous Eurogamer score and review and think the game is garbage, hence not buying the game.

I also thought the demo for Wolverine was really good, certainly the full game must be extremely good as well. Oh, wait...

Wolverine is a movie liscensed game, that was your first mistake.....

You cannot compare the predestined failure of a liscensenced franchise to a game that has peaked the interest in favor of it in many, given excedingly high marks from other reviewers, praised by early players(who got it weeks before release) and those who also liked the demo(me).

And how about reading the different reviews. You will see Eurogamer took everything that every other reviewer(the IGNs, Joystick, etc) loved about the game and turned it into a negative. Right off the bat they relate Infamous to a shooter...which it is not. They complain about some missions repeating......which is funny, I thought all sanbox games did that.Yet other BETTER reviewers have stated there is much variety. To have these views completely contradict what I have seen and heard from other reviewers makes me question how the hell they could feel that way without being blatently biased. At least in the 8.5 reviews they didn't try to morph every positive into a negative.

I trully think they do this to PS3 games to get hits from a lot of angry fans on their site. Some attention is better then no attention.

Lol. Simply lol at the "licensed" argument. What about Valkyria Chronicles? If you judge that game by the demo, I assure you the score will be lower than it is now, it goes both ways. And why in the world would a movie licensed game, having a good demo, mean that the game is bad?

It's all opinion, and if this guy doesn't like it, while someone else does, then that what it is. That's the reality of things. Why should every living being think that MGS4 is a masterpiece? Not everyone will like it, and the same goes for inFamous.

What I meant by that was that licensed games should make all gamers weary of it's quality, regardless of how good the demo might be.These types of games are always made to look pretty. I don't think the Wolverine game is THAT bad though. It has gotten much more praise then prior liscense games as well as those who played it.

And I personally found VC's Demo to be great. It IS what made me buy the game. I have heard quite a few people complain about it but I never understood it. The Demo give a fairly good depiction of what the whole game will be like upon purchase.

I have yet to see a demo, where the REAL game didn't get BETTER then it.

Infamous's demo will do the same, and from what I have played it is great in almost every way.

Maybe that's just you then

I think is where they get the 7/10 from....

This is from the review...

"After an interesting start, however, inFamous loses its way considerably in the middle third, and certain things begin to dawn on you. If you rub away the labels, for instance, most of the abilities Cole can deploy in attack are just analogues for traditional third-person weaponry. The default zap attack is a rifle round, the heavier one is a rocket launcher, the grenade is a grenade, and the precision shot is a sniper scope with slow-motion."

It seems to me that they didnt find it so innovating and compare it to GeoW and other TPS saying it isn't as good as those. They also didnt like the "protect something" missions. Is it wrong to do that? I don't know I haven't played the full game.

The reviews are only there to give people an idea of how a game is. Everyone has a different opinion so of course some reviewers might love it and others might not so much. Look how many opinions are different on this site.

@Bryan

Resistance FOM:6/10(COMPLETELY off)
Uncharted: a 9.0 (Close, but still off, it was getting some pretty low ones so they thought to spice it up with a high note)
MGS4:80(a game that should have been closer to 10)
Killzone:9(a game that should have been closer to 10)
Heavenly Sword: a 7/10(A game that was close to 8-8.5)
LBP:9.5(Wierd ones like I stated where they give the most appropriate score)

And I am talking of Reviewers and from what I've seen from player consensus. And Eurogamer is not the ONLY reviewing site guilty of this.

Hahahaha. This was funny.

So ... "Uncharted: a 9.0 (Close, but still off)". Man GameSpot and Playstation: The Official Magazine gave it 8.0 and you still mourn that it is still off????

"MGS4:80(a game that should have been closer to 10)
Killzone:9(a game that should have been closer to 10)"

Sorry to disturb you, but both are closer to 9 on average. What a game is closer "in your eyes" nobody care about, except you!

The only offshoot I can see is Resistance FOM. 6/10 is just ... stupid. All other are no more then 1/10 lower or better then average.

BTW 7/10 for Eurogamer means that the game is good. They don't give 10 left and right like G4 TV.

Just because you don't agree with their score doesnt mean its wrong and you're aways right about the score of a game ... never heard so much rubbish ..
