I grew bored seeing the same character juggling his opponent in the air; However, I liked the shield block and strike technique. The combos were boring, so eventually I turned it off. The knight still looks pretty cool though. It's good that JRPG's are becoming more like WRPG's though, because they weren't RPG's before.

You are playing off of an omnious stereotype. There is far more character development in Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia together than in Fallout, Oblivion, Mass Effect, and Fable II combined.

To italicized: Again another stereotype. But in reality, other than a few different dialogues and a different ending (which JRPGs have been doing for years) you don't make the story. The closest thing I've come to in WRPGs where your choices actually affect anything is in Fable II where you paid money to develop Westcliff. Even then, it didn't effect the story in any way, just was a nice add-on.

You are not involved in it!...if you are...JRPG's are starting to lose what made them big and are becoming more like WRPG's. JRPG's do not give you choice besides for controlling your inventory. Any form of choice beyond that is being ripped from WRPG's.

If you get choice in cusomizing the main protagonist in any way shape or form and affecting the world around you in the way yo see fit, the game is becoming like a WRPG. Non-existant WRPGs?  Both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest got a lot of their ideas for their games from WRPGs (mainly the Ultima series).

Final Fantasy always changes up gameplay style, but the common angle of what final fantasy is based off of, which is a linear storyline has nothing to do with being an RPG at all. The battle system of Final Fantasy could change and no one would be the wiser, because they are focused on the progression of a storyline. If you changed an WRPG's style, the people would take notice because your actions are exactly how you progress. As I said...you could watch all scenes and clips of final fantasy and get the concept of what the game is all about. This cannot be done in WRPG's because you change the course of the game. This is not a stereotype.



If any game is worth hyping is definately ME 2, anything from Bioware is worth hyping to be honest ! They've been making absolute classics for years now, i still prefer them over Betsheda (and i do like Elder scrolls and Fallout 3).

The only more awesome studio were the Black Isle, but i think some of them are at bioware.



Mass effect 2 has AAA Written All over it.

Are you kidding me?! Final Fantasy's battle system is under the microscope nearly every time. Any subtle hint or change that Square is anaylzing and scrutnized over and over again. You clearly do not play them.

Response: You can do this with any game regardless of genre. I will still get the story from Fable II and Mass Effect from youtube. It can be easily done. The choices you make a really an illusion and the only ultimate change you see if a different ending. (which JRPGs have been doing for years. Different scenes and endings based off of choices you've done)

So you're not playing a role in a JRPG because it isn't always you? Isn't it not like acting? You are playing another character, living his/her life. You may not choose how you fart in a JRPG, but you are still playing the role of that character.

LOL!!! This is funniest crap ever! Have you even played Mass Effect? The first cut scene is completely based off of your customization of your character; every detail of it to be exact. Everything from your class, gender, look, backstory and all are implemented into the storyline from the first customization. Cut scenes in Mass Effect are fully customizable and allow you to make the decisions and choose what your character will say to progress the storyline. You still don't get it, do you? The movies are still apart of the gameplay. Games like Final Fantasy are a story string where you have no control. The cut scenes are set in stone and you just watch the grand movie play out. You have not one ounce of effect on the outcome of the game. As I said, it's not an RPG. The only RPG-type thing that it does is use similar RPG battle systems. You could watch movies in Final Fantasy without playing a second of the game and be satisfied with the storyline. The only thing the battle and questing in final fantasy does it take you from one cut scene to the next. In WRPG's and Mass Effect to be exact, the whole game is based on your preference and style.

Man...where have you been? There have been like 3 threads so far that i've seen on VG Chartz, hyping Mass Effect 2. Thats still not a lot though. This game deserves hype. That series left us wanting so much more, because we became the characters and felt like we were in the game.
