^ It will take off when the cheapest model is $99
Sounds good. The Blu-rays I've seen look awesome, I'd like the format to become more influential...
For the people wondering how Sony is still losing money despite this good news is that many other companies make Blu-ray players. So everyone of those sold is not big money in Sony's pocket. But this is good news and if market penetration starts to pick up some speed here soon then it will be obvious that Sony made the right decision including Blu-ray in the PS3

I don't know about that, if anything the increases in solo blu-ray players (because prices are going down to affordable level) might hurt the sales of the PS3. So it was right decision to win the HD wars, but I don't know if the same could be said in this case.
Anyways good news for Blu-ray, step in the right direction, but still going to be awhile for it to become market leader.

I wonder how the sales and trends compare if PS3 units are included. (edited after seeing it did not include PS3s).
Also, it is ironic that selling 400k in a quarter at $261 is considered great for BluRay players while selling close to 400k in a month at $250 is considered a sign of doom for the Wii.

The days of people buying a PS3 as a Blu-ray player only are gone. Not when you can get the players for as cheap as $200. So it hasnt affected sales of the PS3 for quite awhile I imagin. It was one thing when it was one of the cheapest and had the best specs, now Sony has a model for $250 that does everything the PS3 did as a Blu-ray player.
I have seen tons of blu ray movies, the quality is amazing. It can definitely stay around for a loooong time. I just don't see how you can improve on it.
