Remember that huge spike in xbox 360 sales in november? That was due to just one title Gears of war.

Halo 3 may do the same. The ps3 needs a huge shooter. Hopefully UT3 is amazing.

No, that's called Christmas ...

It comes every year and causes almost every products sales to spike

no, Gears spiked then sales went down then spiked again for Christmas.

the number of games on PS3 is poor in japan but good here....10 months since release( 5 in Europe)and it has games as Heavenly Sword,Warhawk,NinjaGaiden Sigma,NHL08, The Darkness ,Sega Rally,Stranglehold,Resistence,Motorstorm,Oblivion,Virtua Fighter 5,Madden 08,Skate,Raibow Six Vegas ,GRAW2 ,Tiger Woods 08,Folklore,Hot Shots Golf ,Call of Duty 3,NBA Homecourt,NBA 2K,Lair ...etc etc

....better than the 360 last year and way better than Wii current library....

too bad for sony that in the eyes of the average consumer they're all trumped by Wii Sports...

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is it blissful or intentional ignorance? I have to know what is it that makes some posters consider a PS3 price drop will be a singular event. When history has shown it is a dual event. Sony will drop the price, and Microsoft will follow it up with one of their own its called a price war. I read the same thing time and again Microsofts price cut was smaller. No it was the exact same price cut sixteen percent. Were Sony to cut the price of their console again be a hundred dollars, or twenty percent. Microsoft would cut the price of their machine by twenty percent. The relative change in value remains the same.

This simply has to be ignored intentionally. We saw the same thing happen not even a month ago. Further more Nintendo might follow suit too. Why well the 360 would be undercutting its price. So its not just a question of what Sony will do, but what the other two would do in response. You cant just drop a bomb and expect the other side to just sit back and twiddle their thumbs.

Pachter is actually making a smart call. There is no way a price cut would do Sony any good at this point, or at any point during the holiday season. Hell it would be a sign of complete desperation. Microsoft will price war them, and maybe even Nintendo. They have no backup in the form of software, and to make matters even worse they are losing far more then the other two. Nintendo has made money all along, and Microsoft might actually be making money with the falcon models.

I already think that Sony is in the no win situation. Further more I think their only intelligent option is to hope they get through these holidays without being too thoroughly thrashed. That is yet to be seen. Screwing with the price nets them nothing, and more then likely would exacerbate their problems with their profit margin.

Ken Kutaragi's poor leadership and even poorer design choices have left Kaz Hirai holding the bag. It will be extremely difficult for the PS3 to fulfill all the grandeous proclamations that were made prior to launch. The systems overall design is what makes dropping the price so difficult. As I've said many times before, pricing will haunt the PS3 for the entire generation and will be one of the principal reasons that Sony finishes last this time around.

I cant believe I missed this..

YOU ARE A DUMB ASS. Ken is the greatest engineer currently in our generation. His design isnt poor, its just advanced. Its to advanced for this generation. If Ken would have designed a Emotion Engine 2 for this generation the CELL is better fitting for the PS4. The PS3 isnt poorly designed at all. Price is fitting for a product that is beyond this generation. The fake that they already cut costs is amazing. After 2009 in America, digital signals will become the only signal legal which will make it so millions of American will purchase an HDTV. That will free up more reasons to purchase a PS3. The price of the PS3 by 2009 will also be atleast $350 for the 80GB if its not discontinued.

They'll probably drop the price when MGS4 hits in early '08.

Pricedrop + MGS4 + GTAIV could sell a hell of a lot of units.

a MGS4 package deal/special edition would be cool...

You've got to be kidding; "greatest engineer currently in our generation"

His designs are always strong in one particular department, but overlooks the whole. The PS1 was designed with 3d in mind, and did that very well. However, it was very poor with 2d. The PS2 design was centered around the CPU, with everything else almost as an afterthough. The PS3 is the same way. He always focused too much in one area and created designes that werent exactly balanced.

The problem is, he was a good engineer but a bad businessman. The reason Sony is where its at today is because he took the PS3 where he wanted it, not where the market was going.

BTW, kutaragi didn't design the Cell.

Familiarize yourself with the Wii lineup.  It's very good -- it doesn't matter that 43 games are due out in October alone.  There are many, many top quality Wii exclusives out today.  The PS3 doesn't even have a 'Metroid Prime 3' equivalent.

Hopefully UT3 is amazing

Have they announced a release date for UT3 for the 360 yet or will it probably be 1H 2008?

Normally, I try to keep it civil but I think I will refrain in this instance. You are an idiot. A great hardware design is not just about power, its also about cost and ease of development. The PS3 is Kuturagi's worse design yet. He has gotten progressively worse since the PS1. A truly great engineer takes his "customers" into account. Those customers would be game developers and consumers in this case. His design was the reason Sony was eating $200 plus on the PS3 at launch despite it being twice the price of the PS2 at a launch. Anyone with half a brain would realize that. The fact that you are unable to comprehend this speaks volumes. Ken's design is so exceptional that Nintendo and Microsoft have been able to make money off of each unit they sell at a signficantly lower price point than the PS3. This resulting pricing conundrum is costing Sony marketshare and exclusive content.

The fact that you said the PS3 is beyond this generation  proves your lack of intelligence. Maybe if you possessed enough cognitive reasoning to see through Sony's marketing speak you could realize that. You would also then realize that a Digital TV signal isn't necessarily HD. It would also then dawn on you that even if the PS3 managed reach a $350 price point by 2009 it would still be $50 higher than the PS2's launch price point.

It's late, I'm tired. So I won't lay into you like I should. I may address your nonsensical post tomorrow when I am more coherent. Hopefully you will develop the most basic elements of common sense by then SSJ12, but I doubt it. BTW SlorgNet unless the majority of Americans have increased their salaries by 33% since the PS2 launch. $399 is not equivalent to $299 dollars.

Whoa, simmer down guys. You are both above senseless name calling.

I agree that the price of the PS3 is a bitter pill to swallow. It's a machine that could have gone a long way if only the technology wasn't a few years too ahead of it's time. Blue-ray and Cell seemed like a great idea on paper, but I do really believe that the Playstation brand has really strayed away from it's roots.
