What is it blissful or intentional ignorance? I have to know what is it that makes some posters consider a PS3 price drop will be a singular event. When history has shown it is a dual event. Sony will drop the price, and Microsoft will follow it up with one of their own its called a price war. I read the same thing time and again Microsofts price cut was smaller. No it was the exact same price cut sixteen percent. Were Sony to cut the price of their console again be a hundred dollars, or twenty percent. Microsoft would cut the price of their machine by twenty percent. The relative change in value remains the same.
This simply has to be ignored intentionally. We saw the same thing happen not even a month ago. Further more Nintendo might follow suit too. Why well the 360 would be undercutting its price. So its not just a question of what Sony will do, but what the other two would do in response. You cant just drop a bomb and expect the other side to just sit back and twiddle their thumbs.
Pachter is actually making a smart call. There is no way a price cut would do Sony any good at this point, or at any point during the holiday season. Hell it would be a sign of complete desperation. Microsoft will price war them, and maybe even Nintendo. They have no backup in the form of software, and to make matters even worse they are losing far more then the other two. Nintendo has made money all along, and Microsoft might actually be making money with the falcon models.
I already think that Sony is in the no win situation. Further more I think their only intelligent option is to hope they get through these holidays without being too thoroughly thrashed. That is yet to be seen. Screwing with the price nets them nothing, and more then likely would exacerbate their problems with their profit margin.
