First time since week of Feb 6 2006, Sony hardware as a whole tops Nintendo hardware.

Is the Wii dropping in sales or is it being supply constrained?

It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo were putting alot of Focus on the NA market at the moment due to the Halo 3 release. I am sure Nintendo would like to have a PR victory next week by saying that they outsold the 360 during the week Halo 3's release.

Remember they did something similar in March with the EU PS3 release.

Nothing to worry about here, it is simply a slow time in Japan for the purchase of any home consoles added to the effect the PSP Slim and FF7:CC has had.

It's gonna be one of the few times Sony actually has any kind of lead over Nintendo, it probably won't last long.

Is the DS all over again exactly a bad thing, considering thats the fastest selling gaming device of all time?

Exactly my Point! ;P

Did the DS ever go through a point of selling just 26k, AFTER having success earlier?

I dont think so.

Well, the DS did drop down below 25K a number of times there even with it being sucessful in japan to start with. But then again, your Comparing Numbers and $$$ between hand held and consoles where as I was comparing situations between the 2, (Lack of 3rd party support led to slower sales after a great lauch period - then 3rd P's signed up after time) - Sales took off and hit the roof.

I expect the same to happen with the Wii. But then that's just my opinion. And Yes, I do aggree that the current sales of the Wii are horrid and should be much much higher for it to really be successful.

Well, I think this might help:

Taken from GoNintendo.com:

TGS - Which platform has the most games on display?

The first number is the software available at this year’s TGS. The second number shows last year’s amount.

NDS: 17.1% (10.4%)
Wii: 8.1% (1.0%)

PS2: 7.2% (20.1%)
360:4,9 % (4.0%)
PS3: 3.2% (3.6%)
PSP: 2.6% (6.6%)
PC: 0.2% (0.4%)
GBA: 0.0% (0.4%)

GoNintendo link: http://gonintendo.com/?p=25590

Original story run by Gamefront: http://gamefront.de/

The most interesting thing with these numbers is that Nintendo didn't show up, so Nintendo had no games on display other then the Mario and Sonic at the Olympics game which is being made by Sega. Crazy numbers... I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Actually... it's kinda grim for Sony right now as they gave up the most amount of third party support to Nintendo.  The chart is confusing a bit since it really only adds up to 43.3%... anyone know why?

There are a couple things happening in Japan. For one they've had several majour natural disasters over the last few weeks. (Earthquake and then a Typhoon). Another problem is, kids just went back to school there and as such it effects the charts. Parents will start buying their children toys for Christmas (Well... New years) in the next few months. Once the people get back into their regular routines, things will pick up. It doesn't help that there haven't been many games released over the past while either.

ANY console would get low sales when there isn't new interesting games coming out. Just wait till Galaxy and SSBB comes out and Wii will be on top again.

That's been the PS3 guys slogan for a long time.  It's really not the only reason and those 2 games will strengthen things but the other issue's in Japan need to return to normal before things start raising on their own.

The Saturn's probably not a good example. It was pretty much destroying the Playstation for a whole year in Japan, but got beaten out pretty quickly.

Oh, and the PSP may have had a good week, and even impressive hardware sales worldwide, but it's lagging behind the DS considerably, and it's software for the last, well, year or more has not been very impressive.

Close to even, then the PS started pulling away

Wii has moved under 200,000 a few weeks this year, but rebounded with stronger than normal weeks after.  Generally speaking it seems that months with few Nintendo releases coincide with low Wii sales.

January had Warioware/Fire Emblem/Wii Play (USA/Jap/Others)

February had Wii Play (US)

March had .... (nothing? I need to check on this)

April had Super Paper Mario (USA/Japan)

May had Mario Party 8 (USA) Strikers (Europe...I think that is when it came out)

June had Big Brain Academy/Pokemon Battle Revolution (USA)

July had Mario Strikers (USA), Mario Party 8 (Japan I think)

August had Metroid Prime 3 (USA)

September has Super Paper Mario (Eur)/Strikers (Japan)

October has Batallion Wars (USA)

November has Galaxy (USA/Japan/Others) and maybe Brawl for Japan, and Prime 3 for Others

December has Brawl (USA), Wii Fit (Japan)

Obviously September should be down a bit until Strikers releases in Japan, and once the Metroid boost wears down a bit I imagine Wii will be back in the 85k range in the Americas until October.
