To also sell a superior HD console (therefore obviously more expensive to produce) far cheaper than a less capable machine (wii) is a sure sign of desperation that could be cleverly exploited by the competition.

Hum, to me the Wii has a "high" price compared to the ps360, only because it sold very well.

I'm not sure it will end this generation with a higher price than the 360...

Don't forget that MS is aiming at the Wii market also (we saw the annoucement of last E3 around casual gaming.. the avatars...). If they announce a motion sensor at E3, it will be a confirmation that MS is shifting focus on the casual market.

perhaps to sum it up, a good campaigning is also required for M$. Wishing them good luck for the investment.

I didn't said it was feasible .

Still, MS secured a good portion of the hardcore audience... maintaining the pressure on the PS3 is not exaclty a proactive business goal. The solution : Aiming at casual market...

Xbox 360 adjusted down by almost 87,000 units. While PS3 was adjusted up by almost 160,000 units.

no it wasn't .. complete lie!

There was a 70k gap between numbers before this weeks Americas numbers came in.

How come? Before they announce Americas numbers, PS3 has 22.2 (22,200,000)Million console sold and Xbox has 30.4 (30,400,000) million. After Americas numbers were announced, PS has 22.4(22,400,000) and xbox has 30.4 (30,400,000)

So the difference is almost 200,000 and Xbox has 46,000 and PS3 has 33,000 sales for last week.

Do the math and you see that PS3 has been adjusted up and Xbox didnt go up even with the 46,000 units sold. And uou can also see the PS3 share went up to 21.8%(21.7% before adjustment) and Xbox went down to 29.6% (29.7 before adjustment)

So please dont acuse people of being liers without getting the facts first.

Dude ... the 360 was at 30.28 and the PS3 was at 22.21, a 70k gap between the 2. I have my facts correct.

Yeah, that's an interesting one. If you look at the 2 May WW chart you will see that the 360 --> PS3 lead was taken under 8 Million (7.991 million). The 360 LTD total for that week being 30.127 million. Given the 30.28 million quoted by seece without the US numbers that represents pre-adjustment increase of 109K when the WW sales this week without the US was only 64.5K so that is a difference of 44.5K, then add the 46.8K for the US for this week and this gives an overall downward adjustment for the 360 of about 90K. PS3 numbers are spot on, last week 22.14 million (rounding up from 22.136) this week 22.4 million, exactly 100K so no upward adjustment for PS3, or only a few thousand at most (we'll have to wait for the WW chart to go up to see how much rounding of the front page numbers there has been for current LTD sales).

Still, seece, it's pretty uncharitable to go calling someone a liar when it merely looks like fxa hasn't remembered the numbers correctly, and therefore made some incorrect calculations as a result. How about being a bit more measured in the tone of your responses instead of automatically assuming a more sinister motive? Even if fxa knowingly lied you can't prove it so you might as well point out the error without the unprovable accusatory retorts, and let the facts speak for themselves; it'll make for a more peaceful discussion.

Agreed that MS needs to do something to get sales moving but if you think dropping the price and losing revenue is good business sense....

As I read in some article dropping the price makes the x360 more accessible but increases piracy as it becomes more accessible to those on a small income and the ones most likely to be using cracked software due to their economic situation.

To also sell a superior HD console (therefore obviously more expensive to produce) far cheaper than a less capable machine (wii) is a sure sign of desperation that could be cleverly exploited by the competition.

Very good point you make but I do think MS will do something regarding pricing, they will have a plan ready for when/if sony reduce the ps3, maybe something will be mentioned at e3?

Wow, these numbers are so bad. Hopefully some good software can bump things up. I hope the industry gets things together.

PS2 vs PS3 is a lose lose situation. The PS2 may be pure profit but I doubt is moves as much software as the PS3 does. Especially since it is an old console and devs have moved on for the most part. Not to mention the PS3 has more years to go. The PS2 is approaching the end of its life cycle. So in the long run Sony wants the PS3 to sell more. So the PS2 doing better than the PS3 isn't terrible but it isn't really something to celebrate, not for a company moving forward.

Sony desperately needs BC on the PS3.

On a side note, 2008 could end up being Wii/X360 top year after all.

And PS3.

Console 2009
Wii PS3 X360
Total
5,717,287
2,773,347
3,082,149
Console 2008
Wii PS3 X360
Total
6,247,282
3,299,347
2,440,742

If the PS3 is down and the Xbox 360 is up and 2008 is what you'd consider the top year for the Xbox 360 then obviously as the PS3 is down the most in absolute AND relative terms its the class of 2008's most likely console to have peaked that year.

Yes, you're right, but Sony is predicting to ship a ton of PS3s this year what implies a pricecut, and most likely BC on the more expensive SKUs. No matter how do you slice it, it shall improve hardware sales somehow.

Wii... definitely will be down.

How much X360s MS are expecting to ship this fiscal year?

Its fiscal year, not calendar year. Sony/Nintendo are April/March, Microsoft is June/May so we'll know of their projections then. Also I don't think people could simply say the Wii is down. You'd probably need about 4 pages to scare away all but the most die hard of Nintendo fans.

I don't think you could put BC and likely in the same sentence, sorry.
