Sony desperately needs BC on the PS3.
On a side note, 2008 could end up being Wii/X360 top year after all.

Could be...
"U.S. stores sold 340,000 Wii players in April, down from 714,000 a year earlier, NPD Group Inc. said yesterday in a statement. Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 console fell 7 percent to 175,000
and retail checkouts of Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 slid 32 percent to 127,000."

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
These are the kind of figures I want to see Japan managing (well, I wouldn't expect X360 that high, but take some from X360 and add to the PSP)
It was nice when America was double this. I think we have been spoilt by a sudden burst of console interest in 2007-2008, and now these are below average to compensate.

yup 2008 was a phenomenal year for HW & SW in terms of sales and even quality. It will be long time when will see something that top that

Agreed that MS needs to do something to get sales moving but if you think dropping the price and losing revenue is good business sense....
As I read in some article dropping the price makes the x360 more accessible but increases piracy as it becomes more accessible to those on a small income and the ones most likely to be using cracked software due to their economic situation.
To also sell a superior HD console (therefore obviously more expensive to produce) far cheaper than a less capable machine (wii) is a sure sign of desperation that could be cleverly exploited by the competition.

If the PS3 is down and the Xbox 360 is up and 2008 is what you'd consider the top year for the Xbox 360 then obviously as the PS3 is down the most in absolute AND relative terms its the class of 2008's most likely console to have peaked that year.
Tease.

Hum, to me the Wii has a "high" price compared to the ps360, only because it sold very well.
I'm not sure it will end this generation with a higher price than the 360...
Don't forget that MS is aiming at the Wii market also (we saw the annoucement of last E3 around casual gaming.. the avatars...). If they announce a motion sensor at E3, it will be a confirmation that MS is shifting focus on the casual market.

Dude ... the 360 was at 30.28 and the PS3 was at 22.21, a 70k gap between the 2. I have my facts correct.

If what you are saying is true, then why the front page of VGCHATZ is showing PS3 at 22.24 and Xbox at 30.24 (less than 30.28 which you claim. So with 46K more (Americas sales) for xbox it goes down to 30.24 ?

Before Americas numbers.
PS3 - 22.21, 30k America - 22.24
360 - 30.28, 40k America - 30.32 - actual 30.24, adjusted down 80k.
There was no adjustment for the PS3.
