First, should the cost of CELL and BluRay be within or excluded.

We don't have figures on how much profit the gain from PS2 and PSP so we can't see how deep the cut goes for just PS3.

First is fiscal year 2005 with only 8.7 billion yen i profit for the whole division. Fiscal year 2006 was -232.3 billion yen. 2007 was -124.5 billion yen.

So just by looking at the fiscal loss for the whole division its at - 356,4 billion yen just in the first 2 fiscal year where PS3 was out fiscal 2006 2007 is march 2006 until march 2008.

Its a number with a lot of 0's behind it.

They wasted the profits from the PS2 on it, from what I read about a few months ago..

Less then half what the Xbox brand cost MS.

Add for fiscal year 2008 on that

Q3: + 0.4 billion yen
Q2: - 39.5 billion yen
Q1: + 5,4 billion yen

so from the end of 2005, where we can imagine that the real cost of developing PS3 began, we have - 381.8 billion yen!

And - 381.1 billion yen is the whole division so with the substraction of profit from PS2 and PSP we can say that the losses of PS3 is much greater then 381.1 billion yen.

So in todays yen its nearly 4 billion dollars in losses just for the division.

Okay people if you read the report it showed that hardware for the ps3 was down 9% and software sales for the ps3 were up 53% (for the final quarter). On top of that the pure profit they are getting from psp/ps2 was down 23-31% on the hardware side. The loses are not from the gaming side of their business, it is from stuff like sony erikson and sony pictures (last year they had huge profits because of movies like spiderman 3, this year they lost some revenue due to the underperforming quantum of solace). As far as the losing all the profit from the ps2, last I check no one just puts cash in a can and sits on it for 9 years. If that cash was invested it probably quadrupled so I would think that quote about the loses is just bs. If they really lost all that profit would they still be in business? Probably not, so lets stop with this rumor crap until sony tells us what the real loss/profit is for their final quarter.
