Forums - Sony - Why does PS3 games have DLC if its on a Blue ray?

DLC is made to keep players wanting new stuff. If you put all the stuff on at once and you play it all then you can get bored and not want to play the game. Some games get boring when playing the same maps and missions sometimes but when new stuff is added it is fun again. Also it's about making more money too.

Well then doesnt this prove that a blue ray is point less because there just gonna have DLC anyways?

If not a troll job then just lol.

you think everything is a jab agaisnt the PS3 is a troll, it isnt. Apple, a very cutting edge tech company, is cutting out optical media all together is their newer laptops. http://www.apple.com/macbookair/specs.html Seeing as how even the PS3 relys so heavily on DLC, it shows that a 100 gig optical media is not only not necesary but going in the completely wrong direction.

Also, you were correct when you said that Apple was a cutting edge tech company.  So cutting edge that the Blu-Ray Association added them to the Board of Directors, since the helped with the creation of the Blu-ray Disc.  And Apple was pretty proud of that as well, so much so that they put it on their website.

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/mar/10blu-ray.html

Apple was only there to piss off Microsoft. Steve Jobs has said repeatedly that they will NOT put it in their actual products.

Dude just go over to any local bestbuy, blockbuster, future shop and see a blu-ray display, there you will see the reason blu-ray was created, and that my friend is for the movies.  HD audio on top of native 1080p at 24fps is just outstanding over HDMi, stop kidding yourself and see the real difference.  oh! and last I check apple desktops do support blu-ray drives so your point is pretty much moot.

There are a few reasons, but truth be told it comes down to the almighty dollar...oh well, more money on this round of games makes for better games to be released.

1. Theres no such fucking thing as blue ray. It's spelt Blu Ray. Its not that hard to remember. Seriously is it that hard? In fact it takes more effort to spell it blue ray then it does to type Blu Ray.

If you're gonna be an arse about it, get it right. First of all, capitalising the "r" in "ray" is incorrect, and, secondly, "Blu-ray" is hyphenated.

The words "bitch" and "slapped" come to mind

@ samuel:

yeah you got me. It bothers me when people type it "blue ray", and plus I just lost at a game of NHL 09 because my goalie wouldn't make a single fucking save so I was pretty pissed.

I don't care if people hyphenate it or not, its the "blu vs blue" part that bothers me.

One of the poorest argued troll threads I have ever seen on VGC.

Firstly, the whole point of DLC is that it is extra content developed & released after the game has already been released, in order to build on the entertainment already available.

Secondly, "seeing as PS3 relies so heavily on DLC" is a complete nonsense that has no bearing in reality.

Thirdly, companies who are making money that are not using Blu-ray aren't enjoying that success just because they're not using this particular media format. They make money because they do well with the whatever things they are producing instead. It is no reflection on the value of Blu-ray.

did little big planet take up 40gb? and that has lots and lots of down loadable content and it doesn't look like its slowing down i mean like judge dredd sack boy! how ace, i think when little big planet has finished with its dlc? even if theyd have tried they could not fit it all onto the disc with the game

How big is the DLC?

It's possible the costumes and such use textures and things like that already on the game, so the DLC can be smaller.... Of course if you come back telling me a few costume and pieces downloads for 1GB then that disproves it.

So, if you have one of these DLC packs, what is it's size, and also what comes with it (costume wise)

I agree with Twingo for a change..I can understand if your not up on your Information on what DLC is....But here it is anyway...First there is always a Patch that is free to download updating the games System Memory then the DLC comes and is Post Production of a Game that gives new content to the owner...Most of all DLC are Sold..But some are free.....Blu-ray has nothing to do with DLC or Vice versa.....

its Blu-Ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
too many times, its driving me nuts... BLU, not blue ray.

and DLC is finished after a retail release of a game, they can't retroactively put this content on a BLU-RAY disc, or any disc, unless its a goty release or something down the road, but thats not the same argument.

the real problem exists because there are so many multiplats for PS360, many of which might have included that DLC from the get-go if it were not for the disc capacity of the 360.
