Forums - Sales - Too many first/second party PS3 titles for holiday season a bad idea?

err no that would just be stupid. Release Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 2 and GT5 this holiday season. Then GOW III for March 2010, Heavy Rain and MAG for June 2010 when the MF2 fatigue hits and that about take's care of what has been announced. New big exclusives revealed such as the obvious Resistance 3 and others for holiday 2010.

@papflasje you also have to think about all the 3rd party games releasing. I for one if having to choose would choose MF2 over MAG and any other first party title besides GT5. The number of 3rd party games during the holiday season will be big and many will choose them over first/second party titles.

Which begs the question......why do you lot not rent? I will play all these games and more yet save so much monies.

I'm with you on the first four.

Heavy Rain isn't going to sell well, anyway. It's a niche game, and it could do with a holiday boost. . The majority of gamers would strongly dislike Heavy Rain. Releasing it along with some other games isn't going to do anything; the holiday season is when people are in the mood to buy most. And Heavy Rain is unlike any PS3 game currently out; it's like saying Crack in Time will threaten FIFA 10's sales. Delaying it would hurt interest, cost money as the team is idle, and hurt sales.

MAG in June 2010...hmm. I think this is another title which needs holiday rush. It's not the kind of game people massively anticipate, it's the kind of game you'd see in a store and think "hmm, cool" and possibly end up purchasing it.

Nobody really cares about Resistance anymore. The first game was good, and people were hoping for a huge improvement in the sequel, but there wasn't one. Whether it's better or worse than Fall of Man is debatable. But it's not the AAA FPS a lot of people (like myself) were expecting it to be. Not that I dislike it, it's a solid 8/10, but a Resistance game isn't worth holding your breath for.

mid-2010 would see EyePet (lolz), God of War III, Quantum Theory, Under Siege (maybe), FF13, , LA Noire, and a bunch of multiplats and unannounced games.

The holiday season would have Resistance 3, MotorStorm 3, FF Versus XIII, the next Jak game, and Syphon Filter, I would think. And Team ICO's project which will blow away every PS3 game except God of War III released that year and perhaps ever!

So true Resistance 2 was an absolutely terrible game. I am not going to start about Team ICO's but I assume people know just what I think of their games. I don't think I am going overboard in saying that GT5 alone would be more than enough for the Sony first/second party this year. What I can see is a price drop near the release of GT5 and then all the other first/second party Sony titles feeding off it.

GT5, Ratchet and Clank: ACIT, Uncharted 2, GOW III are all guaranteed million sellers and even though the franchise has gone down the shitter so is Resistance 3. If Versus remains exclusive it is going to be huge for holiday 2010, Sony will make sure SE know where JRPG sell best.

Surely one of the UK studios is making a retail game such as a new Wipeout, I shudder to think 250 people are needed to maintain HOME.

As of now Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, MAG, Ratchet and Clank: ACIT and possibly the big one GT5 are set to release during the holiday period so it must be asked; is that a good idea? I would have to say no as the games would eat into each other's sales and with 3rd party games such as MF2 games like MAG would be overshadowed. No way will we see GOW III and GT5 release during the same time though as that would be beyond retarded.......hmmm don't count it out then.

That or Sony has a LOT more first/second party games in production which are ready to release in 2010. The games which come to mind are GOW III, Team ICO's next title and the almighty EyePet.

MAG and God Of War arent coming out this year at least thats wat i think

its a good idea as long as the games come out good the more the better people go crazzy holiday shopping so i dont think there will be alot of overshadowing

MAG is coming this fall it's said by the developers themselves

@RPG

I know you hate the Team ICO games but at least you tried them before you judged them on the other hand I think with proper markting the could sell 1 million

and BTW Twisted Metal PS3 is coming in 2010

....To Epic I think I'm going to die, between 360 and PS3 releases I might have to whore my self out to 50 fat chicks for a $1000.00 in order to afford everything.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

With Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 jammed in there, as well as Sony's offerings on PSP, it just means I can't get any of the promised Xbox exclusives when they launch (though I will buy project Dimitri)

Yes PS3 has to many good games coming out. That has always been the reason for Sony's franchises selling less than Nintendo or Microsofts. Sony usually releases a big franchise game at a rate of about 1 every other month, and at some times, it is 1 or more per month across all three platforms. The other two have very few interesting franchises, so they only have big releases every 3 to 6 months. This allows them to hype the shit out of that one big title, and allow it to sell 4 to 6 million. Personally, I care more about the quality, and quantity of games on a platform, and PS3 has the highest quality, and highest quantity of great games. If you perffer to play high selling games, then thats your deal.

I will take;

Uncharted 2 AT
R&C ACIT
Gran Turismo 5
Killzone 2
Heavy Rain
inFAMOUS
MAG
MLB 09 The Show
God of War 3

in a 12 month period, over;

360

Halo Wars
Halo ODTS
Alan Wake
Splinter Cell Conviction

Wii

Th Conuduit
Wii Sports Resort
Madworld
Pikman 3

Those are the games I have or am planning to have this year for all three systems. Exclusives of course.

I still say the PS3 exclusive releases should go:

God Of War III March/April 2010
Quantum Theory - Spring 2010
HEAVY RAIN - November 2009
Gran Turismo 5 - Summer 2010
Final Fantasy Versus XIII - Holiday 2010/Spring 2011
Uncharted 2 - September/October 2009
A Crack in Time - October/November 2009
White Knight Chronicles - Holiday 2009
Demon's Souls - Summer/Fall 2009
MAG - November 2009

A lot of wishful thinking but I like this list, and maybe even an expansion for Killzone 2 for the Holidays as well!

Must have sooner.

I expect a few of these games to be delayed and spread out a bit through 2010 [Remember KZ2... pushed back because of R2 and possibly CoD:WaW] ... It really is too many at once... I just hope the ones that I care about aren't delayed ...

4 ≈ One

For next year I think it will be Twisted Metal, Kingdom Hearts 3, Resistance 3, Jax and Dexter. So it is not so bad that Sony is pushing all these games out in 09, for a nice Christmas boost. Then in 2010 developers will see the potential of creating a PS3 exclusive. Then Sony will lay back like before and get all the rewards.
