Forums - Sales - Too many first/second party PS3 titles for holiday season a bad idea?

As of now Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, MAG, Ratchet and Clank: ACIT and possibly the big one GT5 are set to release during the holiday period so it must be asked; is that a good idea? I would have to say no as the games would eat into each other's sales and with 3rd party games such as MF2 games like MAG would be overshadowed. No way will we see GOW III and GT5 release during the same time though as that would be beyond retarded.......hmmm don't count it out then.

That or Sony has a LOT more first/second party games in production which are ready to release in 2010. The games which come to mind are GOW III, Team ICO's next title and the almighty EyePet.

I don't think it's a bad idea, the games are very different, with Ratchet & Clank being closest to Uncharted 2 by comparison, so I don't think it will be a problem.

people who don't buy at release time will never buy the game , never.

A Crack in Time: September

MAG: Early October (far enough away from MW2)

Uncharted 2: Late October

Heavy Rain: Early November

GT5: Late November.

Easy.

blackstar great sarcasm there, don't use it again or you will end up getting banned just like I did. If not picked up close to releas date the game(s) will become less and less likely to be picked up for whatever reason.

Also people are poor and will only choose a couple games for the holiday period so games will get lost in the crowd.

@ Kantor as I said people are poor or not willing to spend that much money in a short period of time. I for example would never spend £200 for games within a couple months........which is why I have Lovefilm. :D

First people are screaming and yelling "LOLZ PS3 HAZ NO GAMES"
Now there are plenty of games coming out, and people still aren't satisfied?

I'm not expecting all 27 million (by then) PS3 owners to buy the same game...people will have different tastes. Those who want them all will get them all, those who can't afford them all will get the ones they want most.

Are you saying that they should release Uncharted 2 and ACIT this year, then Heavy Rain and MAG next year, then GT5 in 2011?

@ RPG: they should just market them properly. Aside from that, I'm sure they are quite aware not to place certain similar titles in the same release window.

Apart from that, it's a blessing to have multiple good titles in a period (or a year), no matter whether you can get them instantly. If you can: great, you have a lot of things to play. If not, no worries: you'll get a lot of games that you can play once you get the money / time.

It's better than "ah, I've beaten this game... what's next...hmm, nothing... i'll just wait for ... four more years to play something".

err no that would just be stupid. Release Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 2 and GT5 this holiday season. Then GOW III for March 2010, Heavy Rain and MAG for June 2010 when the MF2 fatigue hits and that about take's care of what has been announced. New big exclusives revealed such as the obvious Resistance 3 and others for holiday 2010.

@papflasje you also have to think about all the 3rd party games releasing. I for one if having to choose would choose MF2 over MAG and any other first party title besides GT5. The number of 3rd party games during the holiday season will be big and many will choose them over first/second party titles.

Which begs the question......why do you lot not rent? I will play all these games and more yet save so much monies.
