I thought it was the opposite: "luck" is generally helpful in the second example, while being able to quickly replay a part will enable you to plan carefully, because even if you are under pressure (e.g. games that constantly throw enemies at you) you might be able to try again without too much hassle. with limited saves, rolling a dice might decide whether you'll throw the controller at the TV or will keep on playing.
