People can actually follow the pokemon lore? It confuses me just thinking about it.

All pokemon were supposedly evolved from mew according to red and blue.

Ho-oh is the god of pokemon according Silver and Gold.

Grodoun, Kyogre, and Rayquaza are supposed to be the earth, water, and air.

Palkia and Dialga are supposed to be time and space. Then you have Acreus who is supposed to be the god of pokemon.

Obviously the pokedex is not in any particular order.

I always thought (in the context of the games story) that it was the order in which they were discovered. So it doesn’t matter that fossil pokemon were first technically, humans didn’t discover them until after… well living pokemon.

But I think we all know that it’s a game in which gamefreak needed an arbitrary numbering system. No discovery, just people creating monsters and assigning them to a number...
