Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3's savior to be announced tomorrow?

So, how many saviors is this, now? Three? Four? Five? Cause, you know, Lair was such a savior. As was Warhawk. And Motorstorm. And Resistance.

No one game will save the PS3. If Sony actually thinks that, they're never going to break out of their spiral. It takes a set of quality games in close proximity.

thats not generally true. Microsoft really truly cares about 1 game (Halo) and they arent doing that bad.

Even if that were true, Microsoft isn't in a state where people usually think they need saving (in America at least). Microsoft has also put a lot of stock into other games besides Halo: Gears of War, Bioshock, and Mass Effect to name a few. They just put as much as they do into Halo because they know they'll get their money back and more. I guarantee you that if Mass Effect turns out to be huge, they will hype the hell out of the next two.

ssj: Halo put Microsoft on the map when it was too obscure to get a lot of attention.  It went from nothing to someting.  Sony is in the opposite position.  Everyone knows about the PS3, and interest is fading away.  One game on its own doesn't stop that.

It won't take that long... They'll be hyping Mass Effect this November. With GTA out of the way and LO releasing in January, Mass Effect is the 360's big November weapon, especially with the early reports coming in on the game. It looks like it might be in the running with BioShock and SMG for GoTY status.

OoT did bury Sony, imo.  The N64 was infinitely better than the ps1 just because of SM64, MK64, OoT, and MM.  I don't care what the sales charts say. :P

OOT would have buried Sony is Square didn't release Final Fantasy VII which set the PS on the path of greatness.

 Indeed.

All the "PS3 Savior" articles are awful. They sound desperate in the sense that they imply "without this, the PS3 is doomed". It's contrived BS as no one game will make or break a console. It is a combination of things... third party support, first party titles, breadth of games, pricing, accessories, and so on...

You sir are a man worth praising.

I'm inclined to agree with that.  Honestly, Final Fantasy VII was about the only game that could have possibly parried Ocarina of Time, and to the victor went the spoils (and the momentum).
