I am somewhat disappointed in the level of logic being applied in this thread. Surely is it too much to ask for reasons. Rather then just saying what is your favorite company, pr more specifically which company or companies you want to do well.
I think that Microsoft is going to take the show. There are four factors that lead me to believe this. The first is Microsoft has always placed greatest emphasis on this show. Second Microsoft has been whoring up announcements for a solid year now. Third Microsoft is in a development cycle stride this year unlike any previous year this generation. Fourth Microsoft has money, and a willingness to spend it. So Microsoft is going to have at least one major left field surprise.
Sony has the most to prove, and needs to avoid being overwhelmed. They do not need to win. They just need to be in the ballpark. I expect a heavy first party delivery, but think third party delivery will be soft. The development cycle would have started in their famine phase with poor hardware sales. Hard to imagine Sony securing third party exclusives in that time frame especially with their unwillingness to buy exclusives. Though I do expect them to bring a new interface the event resolving long standing issues with their service. Not enough to salvage due largely to it having been done before. However fans will be enthused.
Nintendo has nothing to prove, but will indeed finish a distant third. Nintendo was confused last year, and I am not sure they will have fully grasped the nuance of why exactly gamers were upset. So your going to see a half and half approach. Their casual childish antics of last year married with four or five core games. The downside for Nintendo is they really cannot surprise or exceed with their core games. They are predictable new installments in old franchises, and more to the point they are incremental improvements. So it is not like their games are taking a huge leap, but more like a small step forward. So your going to get half a event, and the half you will care about will be almost predictable.
I think it boils down to who understands it. Who can deliver it. Who wants it the most. When you boil it down like that the reasoning is sound. Microsoft really does understand what it is they need to do they did it last year. They can deliver it by whoring, spending, and hitting stride. They want it the most. Once again proved that last year. They sent the net into a free fall with their final announcement. Now that is showmanship, and that is what it is all about.
