this is kind of hilarious because just a few weeks ago Sony stated at a conference that they DON’T pay for exclusives like microsoft does.

Sony also owned rights to the Spider man movie games, should we be glad those got made as well?

Anyway Columbia and SCE are two different entities and act as two different bodies.

@Topic

Since the news only effects PAL does that mean no movie/game in NA?

Why are people even bothered by this when the game looks nothing more than another "meh, next please"

Because we are old... and we disagree.

Welcome to "core" gamer igonorance. Everyone buys GTA4, COD4, GOW2 and anything with mega violence, mega explosions and mega advertising and marketing campaigns, but everything else dies like a quite fart.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Because the PS3 exclusive games list just got a lot better and there are people out there that grow up with The Ghostbusters series and loved it. TGB is an established franchise, so this timed exclusive should be taken as a big deal. The generation that grew up on TGB cartoons and movies are today’s gamers and moviegoers.

so wait this is a timed exclusive in europe? so what US will get all versions the same day yet wii/ds/360 owners in europe will have to wait for their versions?

And just like that the whole "Sony doesn't pay for exclusives" defence dies.

But lets get a few things straight. Columbia own the Ghostbusters franchise not Sony. Sony bought Columbia in 1989. 5 years after the 1st film was made.
Sony had nothing to do with Ghostbusters at all. They purchased the company who owns the license to it. They agreed to sell Zen Studios a license to create a game based on the franchise. With that comes no exclusivity deal at all to the parent company. As far as they are concerned they have been paid money for use of the license and have zero influence over what it is used for.
Roll on to today and Sony have had to pay cash to Atari to effectivley make it timed exclusive to the PS3.

So pretty much Sony have had to pay money to have exclusivity to a franchise from a company of which they own. Is there no wonder why Sony are getting battered financially if they make decisions like that?

Also it must be mentioned this only effects europe so it all seems rather stupid to me. Seems like a desperation move to me. I am a huge Ghostbusters fan. Even have a pre-order for the Blu-Ray version with the free ecto 1 key-ring. But the game looks shit, it was dropped by publishers for a reason so i expect it to bomb. Which again will just make Sony look even more stupid if that happen's.

Has that been said anywhere? For all we know, Sony just jumped at the chance because Atari is having financial problems by offering to take over publishing for a decreased cut, but with exclusivity somewhere. For all we know, this might be a test case for future games / movies.

Unless.... you were there at the contract meetings?
