Forums - Sony - Rumor: New Persona Game At E3, Exculsive to PS3

The Wii seems to be the most logical choice for Persona 5, since it's easier to develop for and costs less to develop for than the PS3. Furthermore, Persona is a game that relies heavily on its art style, so having more realistically rendered people isn't a must, since it's usually a hand-drawn portrait that does the talking. And considering the Wii is about twice as powerful as the PS2, I think that leap in visual power is good enough.

That said, I would love to see it on the PS3 with really nice cel-shaded graphics like Tales of Vesperia's. But in either case, this is still a rumor from a totally random blog site that has multiple spelling and grammatical errors, so as a huge Persona fan I'm wary of getting my hopes up.

See this isn't  necessarily true. The only thing that rises costs are really nice graphics. We already know that not all developments spend the money on the PS3 or 360. So, Disgaea 3, despite being on the PS3, is likely to near the same budget of Disgaea 1 and 2.

I say this because Atlus will not be pushing any graphical boundaries regardless of platform.

Was the move more of a business decision, perhaps reflective of a feeling that the PS2 has one foot in the grave and it's time to move on?

No, not at all. In fact, if we consider the install base of PS2 and PS3, PS2 is financially a far less risky platform to release on. However, in order to provide our fans with the best gaming experience, we wanted to release Disgaea 3 for PS3.

---------

They had to enhance the engine and sprites to HD levels. That alone would make the budget much higher than the first two games.

Of course the PS3 is more risky than the PS2! The series is guaranteed to do well with the same costs. The only cost of importance would be the engine, but as we saw, it still wasn't expensive and it did break even.

If NIS was truly not pleased, then we wouldn't have 2 more PS3 exclusives from NIS. (one published and one developed)

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Well first of all, right off the bat I'll say this specific rumor is complete bull. No way they would announce a Persona game at E3. Persona barely sells in America. It would be announced at TGS or in a magazine issue in Japan.

Second, there are a few points worth making her:

Limiting tech level on the PS3 like Disgaea 3 did would allow you to make a PS3 game just a cheap as a PS2 or Wii game. So the costs argument is kinda moot.

That said, the demographics argument is not. From a sales standpoint the PSP would make much more sense, and I think that's significantly more likely. I think Wii is just about as likely as PS3.

About PSP...it makes the most sense, I agree. But I still don't know if they want to put the next one on a handheld. Chances are if Persona is also on the PSP so would SMT IV and the majority of the other SMT spin offs. Not sure if they wanna necessarily do that. It's certainly possible though.

About PS3...true if they limit the tech they could make it much cheaper but I don't know how many SMT/Persona fans would be willing to buy a PS3 which is more expensive than the Wii or the PSP. I think Wii is probably a higher candidate than PS3 due to its cheap price. So I'm not really sure what a clear benefit is if it's going to have similar tech but a smaller userbase. Someone's yet to answer that in this thread.

whats with the "It makes more sense to put it on Wii/PSP/DS" mentality. Everything cannot translate well into a downsized Wii game or handheld port. If everything had the potential to be or do better on the Wii/DS/PSP we wouldn't even have any games on the HD consoles. Fortunately, some things work for the casual systems, others don't. Madworld is a Hardcore kind of game, with plenty of blood and violence and good action to boot. It did terribly on the Wii. Why? Because there is no fanbase for such a game on the Wii. People who like that sort of thing want to see it in full HD glory. This should prove that not everything will do better on casual systems....

P5 will do best on HD consoles, and its most likely destination would be PS3. PS3 is a Japanese console, which japanese gamers are most likely to buy(especially now). It would give them the best access for it. As well as the fact RPG fans in general on the PS3 are just about starved so this will be a welcomed addition. The game made its mark on the world with P3 and 4 which was on PS2. Brand loyalty doesn't mean much, but it does mean something. Fans of the series will most likely look towards the PS3 for the sequal(I know I am).

This fucking shit is getting annoying now... this isn't even a sales discussion nor a thread about madworld, do you want to start a huge flame war again, where people bring up every hardcore game that does sell well, puts you in your place where you wont listen to facts, logic, or reason, dragging in more fanboys, until the thread is epic fail.  God is this ban worthy yet?

WOW!!! you took that WAY too seriously. I was just using a recent example of my point. If you don't want comments such as this pulled up then say something about the constant "It should be on Wii/PSP/DS, it will do better" comments in every thread about a game coming to PS3. And brings up every hardcore game? on the Wii? News flash, SuperMario Galaxy, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Zelda TP, SSBB, etc are not Hardcore games, they are casual.

I could have said something like LocoRoco for PSP's horrible sales or something similar. I simply chose a different extremity. I wasn't trying to single that one out as in to mock Wii fans.

SMG and Brawl are both casual games in the same sense that Halo and Madden are casual games. They are as mainstream as you can get.

Zelda is the only one you have a case for.

@Manuel
Since their inception. They are filled with cotton candy colors, bubbly characters, an E rating, and adored by small children(not to say older people dont like them too).

I dont see that as Hardcore......do u?

You don't think Mario is mainstream.  What in the world of gaming is more mainstream than Mario?
