Forums - Gaming - Am I the only one who likes health meters over Regenrating health in FPSs?

battlefield bad company did not use regenerating health, had a crazy shot thing you had to use.

its all in choice, and it depends on the game...

im still looking for the game that hinders you where you got shot, so shot in the right arm you aim, and crap is gone or you cant even move the arm, .... this should be a setting though in the game like hard/realistic and not default or the game will not have enough sells to get a 2nd version

also why do we still have to put up with bodies disappearing in most games I had really hoped by this gen they would be able to leave the bodies during the whole match/level taking a page out of the hitman book, but hell we havent even seen his ass this gen except when it first launched and the xbox/360 version was out there, and not really much of an upgrade..... I want to poison some one, then push someone over a clif, and beat another person to death with a golf club, all while dressed as a chicken and it not be zombies is that so much to ask

I love the way it's done in MGS3 and 4. You have a health meter and a second gauge [psyche, hunger, whatever]. Having the second guage high means that your health will regenerate. Slowly but surely anyway. You regenerate faster the less you move. Low guage could hinder your regeneration or even lower your health slowly.

Also of course you have ways of taking care of that guage in the game [In MGS you can eat, relax, smoke, or look at porn.]

In MGS4 there were 3 meters in a way; Health, Psyche and Stress which was just shown as a precentage when you actually have a stress level.

Why does almost every modern shooter have health regeneration, instead of the old health regaining mechanic?

Why does everyone copy Halo 2?

Why does every shooter make you sit and hide like a wuss instead of making you go and finding a health pack?

Why do most developers not even use a reasonable explanation of how the person got regenerative powers, unlike halo, which tells you they are energy shields?

Why does everyone (esp. Yahtzee) praise developers when they use health-regenerating, and punish the games that make it to where it can't be a 3-hr long snipefest between 2-shooters with regenerating health?

Why is CoD:4 considered so realistic when instead of healing yourself with health packs, you auto-regeneration?

Why did the Conduit get slammed by a previewer for collecting health orbs "unrealistically" (a la Devil May Cry/Ninja Gaiden), instead of using Health regeneration, when the whole game is about shooting ALIENS?

Dammit, it pisses me off to see such ignorance in the gaming industry.

Why would shooters need to explain regenerative health to the player? It's not any less realistic than walking through a glowing first aid kit icon and magically feeling better all of a sudden. At least the regenerative system gives a slight impression of being hurt for a short period of time. If you want a more realistic approach, or an attempt at it, play Far Cry 2. I hear you get better by picking bullets out of your wounds with your combat knife. Damn I really have to pick that game up one day.

I'm not talking about a "glowing first aid kit", I'm talking about there being just standard white 3-dimensional, first-aid kits on the gound, you pick it up (and maybe puch a button to use it), and maybe animation plays to heal yourself (bandadges, blood transfusions, ect), instead of having 7 of your 9 pints of blood on the ground and then within 5 seconds of hiding under a desk, you're all better!

It would be best if you could pick up and store 1-st aid kits, with a limit of 2 or 3, but that hasn't happened yet.

@bolded-What game has done this?

I don't like regenerating stuff, I always prefered the stimpacks/medipacks a la doom.

Minus the animations, Halo 1. You just picked it up when you touched it though, and a flash of light happened because they scrapped the idea of animations and button presses in the beta.
