Forums - Gaming - Which console is the best for sports games ?

It's no secret for everybody, I will purchase a new console in a couple of week (maybe wait till the E3...) and I try, of course, to make a good decision. I don't know if i'm gonna pick a PS3 or XBOX 360 ( I already have a wii). I was wondering which console is the best for sports games. I'm a huge sports games fan and this is my mean reason why I don't want to only have a wii at my house. So...

Which console is the best for sports games ?

thanks

ok i did read your post un like some. since you clearly say you already have a wii and don't wont to play your sports games on the wii i wont try and sale you a wii.

Football = Madden and NCAA football, both by EA Sports both can be played on PS3 or 360

Basketball = EA Sports NBA 09 and NCAA Basketball or NBA 2K9, personally i like NBA 2k9 but that's me. all three game are available for both the PS3 and 360.

Baseball = Major League Baseball 2k9 for the 360 and PS3, some say its just ok game some say it stinks. or you have MLB 09 The Show only on the PS3 only. most say it pretty good game.

Hockey = EA Sports NHL 09 available for both PS3 and 360. lot of people say its one of the best sports games ever. then you have NHL 2k9 both available for PS3 and 360. most i say this game below average game.

Boxing = the upcoming Fight Night Round 4 by EA Sports out in June, available for both PS3 and 360

Golf = EA Sports Tiger Woods 09 and upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 out in June. both for PS3 and 360

Soccer = showdown between EA Sports Fifa Soccer Games VS Konami PES games. both have there followers.both games available for PS3 and 360

Tennis = Sega's Virtua Tennis 2009 VS  Take 2 Interactive's Top Spin 3 both available for PS3 and 360. there is Smash Court Tennis 3 by Atari i believe that's a 360 only.

Racing = lots of them

Wrestling = WWE legends of Wrestlemania, WWE Smackdown VS Raw 09 both by THQ both available for 360 and PS3 and there is UFC 2009 Undisputed by THQ coming out next week.

you didn't mention if you needed a blue ray player or a netflix subscription, if so that narrows your choice down.

i wont knock PS3's on line, haven't been on it in about 15 months, as far as i know maybe a thousand people will hit you up in a game of something. i can tell you on Live they will hit you up in no time.(not saying PS3 people wont)

13 month of live can be found for $35, you'll get a 1 month card for live with the system for free. Sony is free in less its changed.

lots more sports games than i typed most of which are for both PS3 and 360, its just a matter of how much you wont to pay for your system to play most of these multi platform sports games.

you'll know a week after you bought one of the two systems if you made the right choice cause you'll be playing and not on forum troll patrol.

Yep, i'm a girl

Since you are pretty late in this generation, I would go with PS3 mostly because of what the future holds (They have that 10 years support)

So does the 360.

So does the 360.

The 360 has a 10 year support?

The support for the 360 will be cut off the after day Sony gives up. Words from Microsoft.

The only sports game that benefits from Wii is Golf.
Many of you think waggle = realism

Again, who is talking about realism? Sports is about testosterone and brute force which quite simply cannot be expressed by waggling around with no thought on a controlpad for thumbs. Twiddling thumbs any harder does not can deliver that same feeling as swinging your arm wildly. Point.

add :

swinging something 'wildy' does 100 % not add anything in sports like soccer.

the motion sensing Wii delivers is NOT sufficient to improve your feeling in, let's say basketball. its just wagglewaggle-score right now.

until then ( 2020 ? ) i prefer realistic graphics and thumbstick, which at least gives me full control AND enables me to do actions i could NEVER do myself, and i think that is one of the biggest aspects of playing sports games.

Three points:

1. Man has a habit of applying physics where it does not apply. Example: pushing harder on the remote control button when the batteries are weak. This extends into video games, if I push a button to swing a bat, pushing it harder does not equate to a stronger swing, however the speed at which I swing a Wii remote can be measured and represented into a video game. Instead developers for thumb twiddlers use timing mechanisms (tap vs press) to measure force. That's great but you're left with a game that is all about timing. Sports are about two things, timing and strength.

2. Realistic graphics? Cough Cough Cough. I'm sorry but human beings still look creepy as hell when rendered. Ever wonder why zombie games look so good?

3. Moving my arm produces more endorphines than wiggling your thumb. The same endorphines (only a lot less) you feel when playing a real sport. So battling a friend moving around the living, will produce a better feeling than reclined on a couch with feet up.

1. i would say ok but the Wii doesnt implement this as you said it, its also just timing ur swing, your point would well apply in theory, but it practically fails hard because motion control is not as far developed as u claim it to be

2. for me it is realistic, if you are such a graphic whore that u are still dissatisfied with current state of HD sports games, you should    a )  cryosleep yourself into 2100  and  b ) drop your wii into the waste basket because if u dont like the HD graphics u surely die when playing wii. im sorry but imo you fail again here

3. me and my friends cheered our asses off when playing fifa, more endorphimes would like result in a sudden and unfortunate death. waggling versus each other definately feels stupid on most games ( see exceptions like wii boxing ), in the current state of games thumb wiggling DOES create more endorphimes.

your post is a perfect fit in 100 years, in 2009 its a plain fail, but thats just my opinion

How can 720p be considered HD when it looks like ugly snow grains on my 22'' screen?

MLB 09: The Show is the only good baseball game you'll find this year, MLB 2K9 is garbage and you should stay away from it. Though, if you're used to MVP Baseball or other HOME RUN FEST MLB games, The Show may turn you off until you get used to the hitting. If you don't care about baseball, 360 is probably the better choice since it is cheaper, has a better online interface (which you will have to pay for, but the system cost a couple hundred less so whatever) and from what I hear some games just run better on it. Unless you happen to know more people with PS3s or want to play a good baseball game, the 360 is the better choice.
