Forums - Sales - Japan the winners and loser will the market shrink to less than 25million?

There are two winners in Japan from last gen wii&360 and one loser.

Wii is a winner nearly doubling it's sale from GC also gen leader.

360 is also a winner as it has doubled it sales and may do far better than that coming though from very low XB sales.

Ps3 is the loser at this point as their sale are at approx 11% of PS2 after about 35% of last gen sales.

With both wii and 360 at approx 200% of last gen GC-XB sale and ps3 at 11%.

This looks good untill we see that total sales are only about 12mil [approx numbers from vgchartz] compared to approx 32mil.

any more idea's?

Market is growing, not shrinking. By the end of the gen

sales of DS+Wii+PSP+PS3+360 > GBA+PS2+GC+XBOX+DC

@scottie
only looking at home consoles at there current rate it is hard to see them go past last gen but as prices come down things may pick up I curtainly hope so.

Scottie is, essentially, correct.

If you look at the expceted Japan sales, they're somewhere around this

Wii: 17M (pessimistic is 15M, optimistic is 20M)

DS: 37M? (Has sold 26M so far, but is slowing down a lot).

PsP: 22M (has sold 11M so far)

Ps3: 6M (2.2M so far)

X360: 2M

Total: 74M

Compared to last gen, in which it was 45M. That's a 70% growth.

But that is, of course, because of handhelds. Handhelds have a GoG of somewhere around + 250%

(I'm not sure why I wrote that, most people should know it).

For consoles, there was around 30M sold last gen. I'm guessing for around 25M this gen (see numbers above). A slight drop, but that's not really too much to care about.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

@Oyvoyvoyv

Thats right hand helds have increased total sales but to go from 32mil to 25mil is a drop of about 20% in home consoles.

I'm not sure why it matters that consoles are down and handhelds up, the industry is still growing at a nice pace

@scottie

this is true but this is only Japan that home consoles are down.

PsP: 22M (has sold 11M so far)I say it will do ~ 18-19 max tbh

Ps3: 6M (2.2M so far)Its already at 3.2... it will pobably pick up steam and pass 8 million LT....

X360: 2M Thats plausable...

Still I agree, this gen the Japanese hardware market had grown a lot, and we will have at least 3 sistsems that will pass the 10 million mark, and maybe even multi ten million mark... software sales might be a bit down yoy but games like MH, FF and DQ will keep it up in the longrun ;)

Whlie the total console market is up this thread is about home consoles and how they seem to have lost there total share of the market.
thank you both as you have added extra idea's.

handhelds are not in the same market as home consoles. (edit) the home console market looks to be  shrinking in japan, will probably grow world wide. handhelds will grow. its that simple
