You're right there are other uses, but is that business anywhere near the volume for the PS3?

I do think it's interesting they would hand over production of such a vital component to the biggest backer of HD-DVD. I guess business makes for strange bedfellows.

Sale not hand over.

And Toshiba helped design the Cell for Sonys PS3 the biggets backer of Br, for all your little stock opinions you really dont know how business works.

exactly, and Toshiba is putting the cell in their TVs.

I already said I don't know how to interpret this move. Yes, I don't understand how this business works. You happy now?

hus, that is so obvious to anybody's been on this forum for more than 2 days.  in addition, why would he think that it's interesting if he doesn't know that as a background?  and "sale not hand over"?  when was the last time any business gave anything away for free?  of course it's assumed, and one shouldn't need to spell it out.

that aside, this is old news.  sony has been thinking of doing that since the ps3 launched, and good business decision at that.  leave it to the specialists--IBM in particular--to make the cell a profitable business enterprise.

anyway, won't be news until the sale is finalized.  sony seriously has way too many subsidiaries it should be getting rid of; indeed, many people think sony would be worth more if it's broken up.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Good, they are spread all over a bit to much.

Better to focus on s few things then do everything.

So, do you think this is also a mantra Sony should apply to its electronics?

depending on how it's negotiated this could reduce production costs, maybe drastically.

I was waiting for someone to say that.  :)

Perhaps its previous forecasts indicated IBM wouldn't be able supply enough Cell processors to meet PS3 demand, so Sony opened up a reserve production line, which it no longer needs due to slower than expected PS3 sales.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Sony definitely needs that money if it is to have any hope in the console wars and to save Blu-Ray from defeat so it's a very smart move on their part.

Its smart, 40gb...40gb...40gb...
