Forums - Gaming - Do you have high standards as a gamer?

Me personally I dont have high standards as a gamer, I tend to enjoy all games whether they are below par. I've enjoyed games such as Bourne conspiracy, rogue agent, turtles ps2, shadow of zorro, lair, Haze etc. which many gamers have criticised but I very much enjoyed.

I can pretty much enjoy any game. So let me ask you this:

Does it take it a lot to impress you?

Do games have to be of the highest quality before they leave an impact on you or enter your 'Best of games' lists?

Do you want games to have the best graphics possible or do you not mind?

Do you have high standards as a gamer?

i generally only play 'good' games, as in reviews or my own taste

unless its a subject matter i cant get away from

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Friend Code: 4094-4604-1880-6889

Yes sir!

Games should be very amazing for me to play them.

Graphics should be on par with Killzone 2.

I'm not very picky at all for most games, I just enjoy having fun. For instance, Samba De Amigo has fairly inaccurate controls and a very simple and low budget game (I think?) But I have a lot of fun playing it with my friend on the Wii. In fact, I don't think we've ever laughed so hard for so long as we did while playing this game.

There are exceptions though.... When it comes to the main series, I always expect the most amazing experiences when I play Zelda games, and I'm always hoping to be blown away by how new, fun and exciting the next Mario game is.

Zelda and Mario are basically the only times I ever have the chance to feel very disappointed by a game. It's really too bad too, because while I realize TP was an amazing game, I just was so extremely let down and disliked the game after beating it. After watching those first two trailers and being on the IGN Zelda board talking about this title for years..... I suppose it was bound to happen.

I have very high standards. The game must have fun game play for me to play.

Carcasone, Tribe 8, GTACW, ME, WiiSports, Talisman, Hero Quest...

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Not within the genres I like (not many). Technical and visual aspects aren't my priority, only the fun factor matters. I often find gamers way too picky.

Yes I do, unfortunately. It has become like a lost paradise. It is harder and harder to revive that experience you had when you are really engaged with a game. It looks like I can get tired of gaming at any moment.

When it comes to gameplay, somewhat. Not TOO high but I have my minimal requirements. When it comes to a story driven game, YES!!! If it fails, I don't even check for the story... If we're talking about RPG's then Yes, I have a high standard when it comes to a good story and set of characters.

I think it depends on the genre really... Like for racers, I just would be just fine with 20 really good cars, as long as they all have their plus and minuses and are different but decent. While I have high standards on what kind of tracks are in the game. I want shortcuts, alternate routes, and nice scenery...

4 ≈ One

For me it is all about story/atmosphere/artsyle. If I like the look of the games setting, and it seems like I would like the charicters or story, then thats all I care about. Personally I don't put much wait on gameplay, because it is almost irrelevent. A game with great fun gameplay can be just as bad as a game with crap gameplay. The fun of the game all comes down to level design. If a dev has great gameplay but (^&&% you with impossible level design then that game is BS.

Does it take it a lot to impress you?

It doesn't take a lot to impress me as a gamer as much as my attention has focused on certain things over the years.  Since I have been a gamer for over 20 years, I have come to expect certain things from genres and individual games.  And if they don't have them, I feel disappointed.  Sometimes it's a game breaker.  Other times, it's actually a positive.  However, its on a case by case basis.

Do games have to be of the highest quality before they leave an impact on you or enter your 'Best of games' lists?

Unfortunately, yes.  Again, since I have been a gamer for so long, I have seen many of the same things from games over the years.  So it takes a lot for a game to be one of my 'Favorite games'.  That doesn't mean I don't have countless games I love.  But narrowing them down to a list of a top 10 'best' would be near impossible.

Do you want games to have the best graphics possible or do you not mind?

For me, gameplay is the most important factor in a game.  Even with a genre such as RPGs.  So graphics are not as important to me as some other people.  However, I do acknowledge that they are important to games, because if graphics are bad, then gameplay suffers.  There's a healthy medium.  Graphics just shouldn't be the primary focus of the development of a game and it's not why I buy games.

Do you have high standards as a gamer?

Yes.  Very high standards.  I research every game heavily before I purchase them.  And I keep up with all manner of gaming news to understand the development of the games I like.
