It doesn't take a lot to impress me as a gamer as much as my attention has focused on certain things over the years. Since I have been a gamer for over 20 years, I have come to expect certain things from genres and individual games. And if they don't have them, I feel disappointed. Sometimes it's a game breaker. Other times, it's actually a positive. However, its on a case by case basis.
Do games have to be of the highest quality before they leave an impact on you or enter your 'Best of games' lists?
Unfortunately, yes. Again, since I have been a gamer for so long, I have seen many of the same things from games over the years. So it takes a lot for a game to be one of my 'Favorite games'. That doesn't mean I don't have countless games I love. But narrowing them down to a list of a top 10 'best' would be near impossible.
Do you want games to have the best graphics possible or do you not mind?
For me, gameplay is the most important factor in a game. Even with a genre such as RPGs. So graphics are not as important to me as some other people. However, I do acknowledge that they are important to games, because if graphics are bad, then gameplay suffers. There's a healthy medium. Graphics just shouldn't be the primary focus of the development of a game and it's not why I buy games.
Do you have high standards as a gamer?
Yes. Very high standards. I research every game heavily before I purchase them. And I keep up with all manner of gaming news to understand the development of the games I like.
