Forums - Microsoft - 360 DVD data limit is 6.8 GB

Fumanchu said:
Who knows I guess the most likely answer is that ALL games use the DVD-9 format regardless of size and it would be deliberate misinformation for them to quote the SL maximum speed if never used.

Absolutely correct. All Xbox 360 games are on DL discs.

There is no single layer Xbox 360 disc in existence.

They all take up the same space no matter what game, from that crap that Burger King was giving away a couple of years ago to Fallout 3. The actual disc will contain 7GB of data on it, with the only variation being if they change the video that gets displayed when you place the disc in a DVD player, (which they have done a couple of times). Now it is about 10mb bigger due to the latest change where they have placed the NXE installer on all games released. That is the only variation you will see.

Back a couple of years ago, you could backup games to fit on a single layer disc, the padding\dumm partition was removed along with the video partition and the firmware on the drive was hacked to trick the Xbox360 to think it was still there and re-direct and requests for that data. However it became apparent MS were using new checks and so iXtreme firmware was made which enforced all backups be either.

7.05GB

or

7.29GB

The ones that are listed as 7.29GB aren't actually the structure of an original. they have an 2 copies of the video partition placed on the disc...one on each layer. I'm not quite sure why this is, but it's some extra measure to counteract MS if they do some new checks.

blah blah anyway time for bed.

Of course I try to self-reflect.

I had much support over the years, but for many of those people posting on that board I had become their arch enemy.

I don't want this thread to be derailed to be all about you.  But I will answer you briefly.  In the reading I did, which plays like a series of horrible train wrecks, you have run into these *exact* same criticisms of essentially being a stealth troll on a number of boards for years.  And not just Amiga related as you try to make it sound like.  Here is a moderator at amigaworld.net asking you why you were banned from Neogaf, which is NOT an Amiga board as many here will know (http://www.neogaf.com) :

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=27068&forum=4&start=660&viewmode=flat&order=0#477406

And Amigaworld.net itself has given you at least one ban in the past as well:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=24997&forum=4&start=60&viewmode=flat&order=0#418361

That Moo Bunny board has posts documenting issues you had on OSnews.com and ANN.lu as well.

And people describe you over and over in nearly the same exact way for over half a decade now on posts about you.  This board included, where many just make fun of your outright.

Its pretty obvious that either:

a) Your self reflection has yielded nothing.

b) Or you just really enjoy stealth trolling and people would be well served not to feed you anymore.

Its no skin off my nose anyway.  Its not like I plan to try to have a sensible console conversation with you, you are either incapable or unwilling to do that with anyone.

FYI, I for the amount of posts I wrote there I have very few abuse reports. I was an adminstrator there at a time, when I decided to leave the team (after many great team members left and I was left with a new team which was far less devoted and enthusiastic). After leaving I outed criticism on the behaviour of some moderators (and one in particular), I was banned for that. But later this mod apologized and everything has long been forgotten, until of course there are people like you, not really knowing the background story trying to digg up dirt.

Here is a moderator at amigaworld.net asking you why you were banned from Neogaf,

And did you read my response?

"One mod there thought I was too negative towards Microsoft. Disliking especially my past postings regarding RRoD reports (a long time ago though, but this wasn't acted on back then) or regarding disc scratching issues (Dutch reporting and such).

I don't care, some PS3 fans came to my defense though and were quickly banned as well (politely stating 360 trolls seem to get away with just about anything on NeoGAF, but postings presenting proof or interesting information is being acted on if the presented data does not suit the moderator's preferences). The owner of VGChartz is also banned, likewise are some software developers and so is the thread starter of the most viewed NeoGAF thread ever (unsurprisingly a PS3 fan):

Wollan is a great poster though (his thread title was changed by a mod though, nearly 3 million reads for this thread of his):
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=342018"

I was never afraid for a ban on Neogaf, I have even come to VGChartz' defense there (which is banned). Stating I like the community effort here.

I should clarify further, I was once an editor for OSNews.com (this is after Phoenix though), during the beginning of the site I wrote a few best read articles (the first ones with over 100K hits) and became friends with at the time editor in chief Eugenia (most of our contacts were online, but once she did cook a nice chicken for me in Silicon Valley), her husband is an ex-BeOS developer.

Amiga.org was the best Amiga community website, but the site began to have issues for AmigaOS4 supporters. Anything AmigaOS4 got massively trolled on, nothing could be seriously discussed (MorphOS/AROS supporters were relentless with their trolling).

So I contacted David of Amigaworld.net, which was at the time a still very immature chatroom supporting website. We worked together, me diverting efforts from OSNews towards AmigaWorld.net, I made sure AmigaWorld.net got good exposure (at for example OSNews, we also paid for banners later on). Membership and forum activity skyrocketed, well beating Amiga.org eventually, which had a much longer history and thus much better known domain name.

Then we finally understood in part one of the reasons why Amiga.org had degraded so much, its owner was also employed by Thendic/Genesi. We only learned about this when he stated he was still owned 10,000 USD when Thendic banktrupted. The funny thing was that our website was genuinely non-profit community driven, while Amiga.org was not. While the bulk of insults and attacks until then claimed the exact opposite!

After these issues, Amiga.org turned slowly back to normal. Legal issues between key partner Amiga Inc and Hyperion showed up. Enthusiasm got a hit from that, David basically wanted to mirror what Amiga.org was doing (not primarily focus on AmigaOS4 anymore). For this of course a new team was needed, as the core team was mainly interested in focusssing on AmigaOS4.

Some people split off to start Amigans.net, AmigaWorld.net no more leading, but again lagging behind Amiga.org. AmigaWorld had become rather stale, in the past we organized special events, performed live streamed internet coverage from Amiga events, wrote exclusive articles and reviews, performed many dozens of interviews (mostly organized by me), we had our own booth at events, we did internet radio round-ups, etc, etc. Sadly the new team (which is a far less dedicated mixture) has let all of that gone to waste. Combined with setting bad examples (name calling) from moderators, I spoke my mind on their behaviour and thus got banned for a short while.

@ Fumanchu

16x read speed DVD drives are in use on the 360 as well as 12x read speed DVD drives, developers though will have to take into account worst case scenarios when developing their games. Some games may benefit from less pop-in issues with a faster drive, other games like Halo 3 see virtually no benefit even when installed on the harddrive.

You've nailed it on the head, problem is this has the effect of...

1. Making the less informed believe things he says, which are nearly always wrong.

2. Stops him getting banned from forums for peddling what is basically FUD. Which is bannable if proven on forums like this. It's called trollingstealth trolling.

3. People who do know what they're talking about get highly irritated by him because of this FUD and aren't quite as good with the english language, or quite frankly just can't be bothered to be polite to someone who is in their eyes "talking shit".

Another thing that MikeB does is constantly take quotes out of context, use sources from people such as himself who also don't really understand what they are talking about.

I'm sorry crumas2, and I do respect you but I have to disagree with this, it's happened just too many times. Either you are right and MikeB is a very very confused man. Or you are wrong and he is one the biggest stealth troll peddling FUDders on vgchartz...I'm no fanboy but there is nothing more annoying that someone spouting rubbish and everyone believing them.

In MikeB's case I sincerly believe he does it deliberately and his post history confirms this beyond reasonable doubt.

@MikeB

Mike, you can write long explainations all you want to try to cloud the basic issue.  The point being made is that *many* different *unrelated* people on *all* of these boards over *all* of these years *consistently* say the same *exact* things about your stealth trolling,  Guiding Light's post above is a good representation about what people say about you over the entire internet where you particpate that I found from my searching.  Its been a fun read in a way.  But that said, ultimately you are just a troll, and you abuse every site I've found you at, for years now.  I'm sure it can be said some others in your travels that you have dealt with have not been saints themselves here and there.  But you manipulate newbies with BS.  You have no excuse for your actions.  No attempt at a smokescreen is going to change the facts.  There is no need to continue this, the point I intended to make is made.

P.S.  You gave me a good laugh BTW on the (to paraphrase) "I had few abuse reports at Amigaworld yet so many posts".  After all you were a mod and a early founder/builder of the site, who was going to process the complaints against you to show on your record?  Thats a rhetorical question BTW.

@ Ausfalcon

Believe what you want, the trolling against me started mainly after this preview:

http://www.osnews.com/story/1897/A_Closer_Look_at_MorphOS_on_the_PEGASOS

Reasons some hardcore MorphOS supporters disliked what I wrote, were due to mentioning some facts, like legal disputes (which were actual at the time) and the horrible stability at the time (I worded it more careful in the article). It was IMO overall a very positive preview, but these facts were worth mentioning, just like what I stated with regard to AmigaOS4 betas, which have been horrible slow in the past (mostly still emulated components running without JIT at the time).

After all you were a mod and a early founder/builder of the site, who was going to process the complaints against you to show on your record?

That's how we operated, users were allowed to submit abuse reports regarding moderators as well, moderators and other staff members have been temporarily banned (it's not that big of a deal IMO, like you make it out to be). Such abuse reports were always processed by other team members and complaints in depth discussed in a hidden staff forum.
