Forums - Sales - Killzone 2 Sales Clarification? SCEA proves "Others" numbers are wrong

I have a feeling, like somebody said, that this is shipped to America. I don't think Sony actually said worldwide, it was just the person writing the article. Adding something to a statement happens a fair bit: SCE announced that there would be an announcement regarding PlayStation, which then became an announcement regarding PS3. It was, of course, a PS2 price cut.

And I very much doubt that VGC is off by 400k in Others...

The article quote SCE, not SCEA, and it quotes worldwide. I personally think the guys making, wrapping and shipping the game would have a better idea of how many they've sold than any 3rd party trackers.

1.4 million is > 1 million last I recalled... I mean, it's been a while since high-school, but I do recall that.

Let me do some research and I'll get back to you on that one :d

I'll tell you why that is unlikely

if your Sony's PR guy.. would you tell the world that Killzone 2 sold 1 million or 1.4 million?

Also, why wouldn't Sony reveal that number sooner? Why wait so late to announce that it sold over 1 million copies?

I would say more than 1 million because it leaves the number completely up in the air.

How would Sony know that 1.4 million figure to brag about it?  They don't use VGChartz numbers, and they don't track sales-to-consumers themselves.  All they have to go on is NPD and the sprinkling of European charts out there.  They probably have a rough guestimation that the total sales-to-consumer are north of a million, and thus that's what the say.

But NPD was keeping them up to date on their sales, they even told them when KZ2 reached 500,000 sold http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/chart-toppers-killzone-2-hits-the-mark/?biz=1

Since when did NPD track europe ?

Still, I've heard $40-60 million being thrown around. We now know those are bogus claims.

psh.... ive always held 35 - 40 million stance on this with mathematical equations backing me up. those people claiming 40+ were listening to a rumor started by sufergirl which is funny... because they only took the second part of the rumor and failed to acknowledge the first part which bunks the rumor from the get go

Sony actually stated that God of War 3 was the most expensive PS3 game to 'program' @ $40,000,000 so taking into consideration currency fluxuations and other bla, it probably couldn't be any more than that and likely would be less than that. $30-39M? I would personally tag the $35M mark as being about right.

can you give me the Link plz ?

I'm not calling you on it or anything I just want to read it :)

Sorry, I don't have it handy.
