Doomed to fail until they reduce the media prices. I've bought 3 Blurays over the last year and really cannot justify the cost of them anymore in the current climate. Interesting to note that in these reports before I've always read that Bluray was tracking above DVD, now it's stopped doing so they blame the recession?

Do you not think that that has a possibility of being correct?  Look at game sales which are supposedly recession proof!

I think it shows the media is priced far too high and has been for at least a year.  If it ever wants to be anything other than a niche product then prices must fall.

Sorry I was trying to be sarcastic since you blamed the recession "current climate" for not being able to justify BR prices then went on in the same paragraph to point out that people were blaming the recession as soon as BR stopped tracking over DVD like it was a concept which would not be justified.

I'm just saying...

I would have thought the recession wouldn't have had a big impact on home entertainment products to the same degree for most.  Only time will tell I guess, I'm UK based and the price of Bluray disks is crazy and you have to buy online as shops are selling at crazy overinfliated prices.

Great news... if the YoY growth remains on the same pattern we could see next year 20 million BRDs sold in Q1 US alone... but the growth will probably be bigger considering that the install base will be by far larger and if hopefully the pricetags will come down even more ;)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

The cost for Blu Ray in the UK is still prohibitive.

Sometimes I wonder if the shops, over here, want the format to fail.

Blu Ray disks are roughly 75 percent more expensive than the DVD equivalent in the UK at the mo.

You can get deals to lower the cost but the same can be said about DVD's

So almost all of the Blu-Ray players are PS3s, with each Blu-Ray player owner buying less than one movie in a three month period. And it's definitely taking off slower than DVD. That's what the numbers say.

Sorry but from this perspective I can't see that as great news for the format. It seems it will only take off when it's closer in price to DVD.

couple things wrong with your post. 1. the 10million number is an estimate from a patcher like guy,(from what i gather) 2. not everyone bought a ps3 for movies. hell, some bought it fot games. (hard concept to handle i know but it isnt 2007 anymore)

Thank you, glad to hear I'm not the only one who hasn't got money to burn in the UK.

1- I was going from the numbers, but you're right that they should be taken with a grain of salt. But if the number is higher that makes the number of sold discs even less impressive.

2- Yeah but that's the point (again assuming the 10.5 million number isn't too far off).
