I just read the in-depth preview of M.A.G. in the latest issue of Game Informer and it looks like it has the potential to be mind blowing.  Considering the popularity of multiplayer combat games such as Call of Duty, this game could be a huge feather in Sony's cap if it is done right.  Could this potentially sell a PS3 to all of those frag happy people who have only played games on the 360 up until now?  I think this game looks like it could be incredibly tantalizing to the Halo crowd.

Again...this is assuming the game turns out to be good.  It needs to be a fun all-around package, not just rely on the 256 player thing.  The high player count needs to be what puts it over the top.

That crowd already belongs to Killzone 2.

No that crowd still belongs to Halo 3. The only real threat to the Halo 3 userbase is another Halo game on the Xbox 360, not some over-hyped PS3 game which is yet to prove itself.

I never thought KZ2 was a system seller that'll pull people from the 360 crowd, but I think it proved that it's a great game in it's own right...

Edit: Unless you're referring to MAG. Which in case my bad =P

Ya, I was talking about M.A.G. Its kinda silly to hype a game we know very little about.

Although we don't know how all the assets and features of the game will play out in practice, we at least know most of those features and assets. It's known that there is 256 players, there's 100+ (there's an exact number, I just forgot) weapons, a number of vehicles (don't know if it was numbered), huge maps, customizeable characters, a CO for both team and squad leaders that can all communicate with each other, etc.

What's unknown (as far as I know) are the mission types, variety of environments, and more detailed information on the known features. But, so far we know enough and almost as much as we can know before playing the actual game. All we need to do is watch gameplay footage, play demos, and read reviews.

But, I don't think it's silly to hype a game that has released the essential and most important features of itself. I love the name, as it fits it so perfectly and can explain everything about it instantly, it's simply a: Massive Action Game.

Actually M.A.G. has been bashed simply for its generic name.

256 players haven't been done on other comparable games for a multitude of VERY GOOD reasons. Its not a bullet point which inspires confidence.

100+ weapons makes me wonder about balance.

># of vehices, again is it difficult to balance?

Tease.

Like I said, we know a lot about the game, short of how all those things we know actually play out. I'm only arguing against your assertion that there's nothing known about the game to hype.

any new IP has potential to be a system seller, its all about the execution and marketing.

^Until we know how it plays, those 256 player #'s for example have to sit as a negative until proved successfully implemented. If its never been done before its a very good reason to be cautious.

If we don't know how 256 players will play out, why should we label it as a negative? All hype is, is optimistic speculation. What's wrong or weird with that? Not any more wrong than making a cynical speculation...

It needs good marketing, and we all know how good SONY are at that.......

Also, if subscription is needed, i highly doubt it.

Yeah, that'll be a BIG negative for me =/ I hope they'll do the smart thing, and not do this, or else they're commiting suicide.

I have not heard anything about it requiring a subscirption to play.  My only concern is servers.  PS3 games have had a lot of server issues upon release, 256 players on one map isnt going to help that.  I have no doubt it will be a good game, i have loved all the SOCOM games that Zipper has made...and was disgusted by the pile of crap that slant six released with the SOCOM name.  I am optimistic but waiting for more info to be released

Tis true. Sony still cannot seem to publish an FPS that can dethrone Halo.

Or any shooter in general which can dethrone Gears of War 1/2.

well call of duty 4 is on both consoles and that obviously has dethroned halo
