Forums - Sales - Could ODST break Halo 3's opening record?

Currently Halo 3 has the record for largest 1st week sales for a console exclusive game.  (yes I know GTA on PS2 actually sold about 100,000 more copies its first week but Halo 3 generated more money).  My question is simple.  Now that the 360 has a much larger install base and seeing that Halo 3 still has amazing legs its obvious Halo fans are still wanting more.  Is it possible for ODST to break Halo 3's record?  Personally I think it has a very good shot as long as the marketing for it is as excellent as it was for the original Halo 3.

probably not

You should be beaten, burned to ashes then someone should throw your ashes from a plane

@DimplomaticImmunity

and your reasoning would be.....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sorry.

No.

Reasoning: Hmmm maybe it's an expansion, and it doesn't have Master Chief in it?

@ Kantor

but....it still has the name Halo 3 on it first of all which is a guaranteed 2 million just for that. It has 6 new multiplayer maps confirmed and with a community of over a million unique users DAILY thats a guaranteed couple million more. To be honest you guys are really underpowering the sales of a FPS Halo game. This is not HW remember that. Its Bungie developed and part of the main canon. Anyone who thinks this will sell anything less than 2 million opening week is off their rocker IMO.

no i dont think so...but it will have a pretty good opening

Being a cricket fan is much simpler and more fun

I think it will sell well, but not quite Halo 3 level, after all, it is an expansion.

   It's the most anticipated game in North America according to the survey I recently posted. And it's 30$ if I am not mistaken.

   So I am expecting good sales. But no, of course it wont beat the record set by Halo 3. If anything, the marketing for ODST wont be nearly the same as it was for the original game.

No. Reasoning, it's not master chief. Master chief is a big part of what made halo bad ass, not the halo name.

It will have amazing sales, just not halo 3 type sales.

I don't think it'll ever beat Halo 3's LIFETIME sales at all but I think it could certainly defeat it in units pushed first week. Especially if its a budget priced title.
