Forums - Nintendo - Analyst : Monster Hunter 3 may not be a huge hit - Me : WTF are u smoking?

Two years ago, this same analyst -- Ed Barton -- predicted that the PS3 would be on top and the Wii a distant third.

He also said the Wii's price increase in the UK was justified.

Funny thing is that he called for more focused publishing efforts on the Wii because low quality shovelware confused people.

This seems to be one and he dismissed it.

Basally, his track record is mixed. And video games are his secondary specialty.

Ed is a leading authority on the global remote gambling and video games industries.

He is simply saying MH3 will not sell the numbers of the PSP versions which I totally agree with. 2 million will be great for the console version, MHP3G WILL easily do 4 million just in Japan though.

i still think it can sell better than the psp games, not as much in japan, but worldwide the wii has a bigger appeal, so with just the reight effort capcom can make this game a huge succes in all terrotories.

I don't think anyone really thinks it'll do as well as the PSP versions.

At least I hope not.

He sounds spot on.

Analysts are just guessing and I havn't seen any with any more accuracy than people on this site.

However, I agree a Wii MH3 won't sell as many units as the PSP versions - in Japan.

Don't forget Capcom has stated they want to try to make MH as big in the west as it is in Japan (or at least much bigger than it is now) and the Wii version will be the forefront of that effort.

So what is big these days?

If MH3 is not big anymore I don't think there are many big console games not mad by Nintendo anymore.

MH3 will easily beat the best sold non-Nintendo game, MGS4, so far. But hey, i guess that's also not big.

He's talking relative the PSP Monster Hunter games.

so taking that logic, IF this were to be on the DS (a larger userbase handheld) it would be massive, but since its on Wii (a smaller userbase console) it will just be good.

Now, consider that MH3 adds many new features, gameplay, and looks, could it bring i a lot of new people as well and simply overshadow PSP's success with it?

I for one think that as long as it is delivered outside of Japan it could very well take PSP's throne on that count.

Monster Hunter has sold almost 6 million units on the PSP in Japan, across three titles. Monster Hunter 3 should be able to move at least a million, and maybe two million, but I don't think it can match MH2G's staggering 3 million sales in Japan.

Now, if Capcom can crack the worldwide market with this title, then it might very well become the biggest Monster Hunter worldwide. I believe Nintendo expressed interest in helping Capcom promote this game in NA and EU markets.

Nope, definitely will not do anywhere near MH on PSP, because the big reason for it's success is it's portability. If it didn't do good with 3 iterations on the PS2, why do people feel the Wii will be different...?
