"Pokemon series is much more popular than Grand Theft Auto series!"

No GTA game has sold over 40 million copies. Pokemon had a couple of games: Red/Blue/Yellow & Gold/Silver/Crystal that sold over 40 Million & 25 million copies respectively and all of them have sold over 20 million except for the "spin offs".

Pokemon Platinum combined with Diamond/Pearl will again sell over 20 million software sales when it stops selling by end of the generation.

What chances are of the next GTA game sales combined on X360 and PS3 even breaking 15 million sales let alone 20 million sales?

Pokemon series stands out as being the best in its genre - JRPG. Whereas GTA series it is not even the best Sandbox series let alone the best games ever. I will not say what I really think of GTA series.

My task for you is to discuss the popularity of Pokemon series versus GTA series.

In popularity I always saw it as this:

US - Halo, GTA
Japan - Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest
Europe - Gran Turismo, Mario(??)
WW - Pokemon, Mario (??)

This thread is much better than Numonex's.
