The real question is how the hell is the Wii selling so well in Japan right now? The closest thing the Wii has seen to a big game was Animal Crossing during Christmas season and the system is still almost entirely devoid of traditional Japanese centered games. How many RPG's does the Wii even have? Looking at VG's game database, the RPG spread looks like this
And there's Fire Emblem at 170 thousand (was listed as a strategy game). So 10 games, DQ is a rail slasher, Pokemon is a DS game companion piece, FFCC:ET is a direct DS port. That leaves 7 Wii RPG's which include the likes of kid centered Opoona.
barely any of these games would be expected to sell well on an RPG gamers console of choice, let alone cause an RPG gamer to want the system. The fact that the Wii is still selling at these numbers despite not having seen a decent selling title since joysound karaoke and taiko drum master, and barely having a single RPG is astounding (oh yeah and no price drop).
Just imagine what this thing will do once Motion Plus, Monster Hunter, Crystal Chronicles, Tales of Gracia, Dragon Quest, and all those Nintendo announced Japanese games.
I know this sounds just like a PS3 defence thread, but the difference is that the Wii in Japan is selling at the same level as the PS3. The PS3 has just seen lots of major games release. The Wii is selling those same numbers based on... absolutely nothing.
I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
