Forums - Nintendo - Some WiiWare devs were not being paid.

Oh stop griping about this being "bad journalism". It's telling us something we didn't know and it's not trying to twist it in to something it isn't.

Anyways, the storage solution is going to be a big factor in improving the download situation. I'm sure a lot of indy game devs saw their games reach that threshold within a week of the SD card update. To keep improving the situation, Nintendo just needs to boost the knowledge of and ease of getting online with the Wii. It is pretty weird that getting online is the third section in the Wii options menu. It's not exactly the friendliest of set up. Maybe if new wii's came with a "get online" button right on the menu (it would go away once you were set up of course), they could go a long way to getting people who wouldn't have even thought of trying to get online to do so.

In looking at it again, it does seem to rely a lot on heresay, though IGN did confirm it and had positive things to say about it. So my previous comment may have been a bit harsh. However, it would be interesting to know how this compared to XBLA/XNA and PSN.  Such a comparative statement would have made the article more robust.

And I completely agree that the storage solution will make a difference. However, I am close to reaching the point that I cannot hold all of my game saves and keep open 300+ free blocks for loading up games to play.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Wow. Nintendo gets paid, and does not pass it along. I see a law suit coming out of this.

i don't think nintendo can get sued, because this stuff was probably stated in some kind of contract that they were required to sign before having their game added.

Oh Nintendo can get sued. In fact they get sued a lot. Your point has more to do with who wins the law suit. :p

Woah. I guess it must suck to be a Wiiware developer. lol

@mike, sounds like you are going to have to shuffle game saves around. That must be a ton of game saves. It sucks that most Nintendo Wii games don't let you transfer the saves to SD card but most third parties probably let you move game saves to SD card.  I assume you moved every Channel to your SD card channels.  My game saves still don't take up that much space so I still have a few channels like the Nintendo Channel and Everybody Votes on my Wii instead of SD.

On Topic: I agree with most people that the SD Channel will encourage more people to download more WW games. Sure demos would be nice. They could possible have a WW section on the Nintendo Channel that shows clips of each game (pretty sure they don't have it set up like this) for a start. It would be cool instead of downloading demos that they have a WiiWare Channel that lets you play demos directly from the Channel. Not sure if that would be possible and that channel would probably take up a lot of space in order to do that but you could just have that channel on your SD Card Channel.

But Nintendo's already the gatekeeper... why do they need another method to discourage crapware?

It is a pretty good idea the only problem is that what if a developer has been really successful with wiiware, but they make a game that doesn't capture audiences like their last games did.

I think for established developers that have successful wiiware games the threshold should be lowered for them.

I'm not sure if you're being serious here (I suspect not. However...), but since it's almost certainly spelled out in the contract any lawsuit would get dismissed by summary judgment minutes after going before the judge.

Greedy Nintendo.

nintendo should have included an ethernet port on the wii.
