Both probably - you can still easily buy DSLite and DSi in Europe.

Was gonna say the same thing. Always funny to see PS3 fans talking about 360s recent price cut even though the PS3 has cut its price by $200 and it was still losing money. The difference is 360s price cuts were placed so that they will still make a profit while PS3s price cut was to increase its abymsal sales while losing money. LMAO!! |
1) Uhm, nice logic. A price cut is made to gain marketshare, not make more money in the short term.
2) As far as I know MS - since the price cut - is selling the arcade at a loss. They probably make a profit on the other SKUs becasue of the overpriced HDD.
3) PS3 price cut worked, and its "abysmal" sales were higher than the 360's until MS in turn cut the price.

Can't believe how big of a YoY drop the PS3 had. They can't be happy with those numbers at all.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I doubt Sony like it either - but it does make sense in the current economic market.
The PS3 is priced/positioned as a luxuary choice. It's price unlike 360 hasn't changed within the recession and a YoY drop was therefore almost inevitable - most consumer electronics companies I know (I work in retail) are seeing dips in most similar items YoY unless the price has dropped or something else is helping prop up demand.
The Wii for example has enough demand to withstand the change without a price drop - which interestingly implies that Nintendo could in fact have been selling it for a higher price without hurting demand prior to the current market conditions.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

My response was towards an individual who had the perception that the 360 has got many price cuts when in reality the PS3 has had more in a lesser amount of time. Plus if a 360 owner wanted a HDD he would have bought the elite or pro, not everyone buys the PS3 although everyone likes to compare it with the PS3.
The only reason the PS3 cut the price because they were literally forced to. Then in turn MS cut the price for the first time last year in Americas and romped all of the PS3 in the holidays.
